O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada, tem como finalidade investigar e analisar as capacidades e requisitos que a Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa reúne para poder participar numa operação no âmbito da Organização do Tratado Atlântico Norte. A Artilharia de Campanha é utilizada em Teatros de Operações como Apoio de Fogos (actualmente é utilizada no Afeganistão). O carácter prático deste trabalho de investigação teve lugar no Regimento de Artilharia Nº4, com base em entrevistas e no relato das experiências pessoais e de elementos integrantes da Nato Response Force 14 e que estavam em preparação para fase de avaliação da força Nato Response Force 17. Este trabalho inicia-se fazendo referência à Organização do Tratado Atlântico Norte e ao actual papel desempenhado por esta Organização Internacional. Após a referência à Organização do Tratado Atlântico Norte, importa estudar o actual Ambiente Operacional, o Espectro de Operações Militar actual e a implicação que autilização da Artilharia de Campanha tem actualmente, chegando às necessidades que um Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha terá que ter para enfrentar o Teatro de Operações. Com este trabalho pretende-se identificar quais os elementos necessários para que uma Bateria de Bocas-de-fogo possa participar numa operação no âmbito da Organização do Tratado Atlântico Norte, integrada numa força, como são o caso da Nato ResponseForce. Para que a Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa esteja homogeneizada com as restantes Unidades de Apoio de Fogos internacionais, comparam-se as capacidades e equipamentos presentes da Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa com os requisitos necessários para fazer face a uma operação no âmbito da Organização do Tratado Atlântico Norte. No final apresentamos as conclusões que resultam desta investigação, de forma a responder à questão central, concluindo que a Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa responde de forma limitada as necessidades da NRF devido ao seu equipamento não ter o alcance suficiente. A aquisição de um novo equipamento traria uma nova valência à Artilharia.

Abstract This research aims to investigate and analyze the capabilities and requirements that the Portuguese Field Artillery gathers to participate in an operation lead by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The Field Artillery is used as fire support in Operations Theaters (currently used in Afghanistan). The practicality of this research, took place at Artillery Regiment No. 4, with a report and interview of personal experiences of integral elements of an NRF that were 14 and in preparation for the evaluation phase of the force NRF 17. This research begins by referring to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the current role of this Organization. After the reference to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, it is important to study the current Operational Environment, the Spectrum of Military Operations and the implication that the current Field Artillery as in the moment. This research seeks to identify the elements necessary for an Artillery Battery to participate in an operation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as part of a force, such as NATO Response Forces. Making an evaluation on the capabilities and equipments of the Portuguese Field Artillery with the requirements necessary to cope with an operation under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, homogenizing it with the other Fire support international units. In the end we present the conclusions that result from this research in order to answer the central question, which follows that the Portuguese Artillery responds to the needs of the NRF limited due to its equipment does not have enough range. The acquisition of new equipment would bring a new valence Artillery.
