O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada está subordinado ao tema: “Liderança e Co-liderança: A Gestão do Comando das Companhias de Alunos num Estabelecimento Militar de Ensino”. O conceito de Liderança sempre esteve presente desde o princípio da Humanidade, mesmo que de forma implícita. Atualmente, torna-se ainda mais relevante a abordagem e o esclarecimento deste conceito. Nos Estabelecimentos Militares de Ensino, e neste caso no Instituto dos Pupilos do Exército, é pertinente instruir os alunos sobre a forma como se deve desenvolver a capacidade de liderança. De certa forma, devido à faixa etária dos alunos, o processo torna-se moroso e mais complicado. A Liderança e a Co-liderança, no Instituto dos Pupilos do Exército, são dois conceitos que sempre têm estado presentes. Isto é, existe um conjunto de Oficiais que exercem funções de comando no Corpo de Alunos, colocando, desta forma, em prática o conceito de Liderança, visto que terão que liderar os alunos. Por sua vez, os alunos com funções de comando, designados por Alunos Graduados, põem em prática a Co-liderança, ou seja, uma Liderança dividida entre os alunos e que é controlada pelos monitores, designadamente os Oficiais. O objetivo definido para este trabalho visa a indagação de respostas às questões de investigação com o intento último de responder à questão seguinte: “No domínio da estrutura de alunos graduados, quais são os mais significativos desafios de liderança ao nível do comando das Companhias de Alunos?” No que concerne à metodologia utilizada, é importante referir que foram seguidas as etapas esquematizadas por Marie-Fabienne Fortin, sendo a recolha de informações feita com base em inquéritos por entrevistas, inquéritos por questionários, pesquisas bibliográficas e documentais, assim como observações diretas. Este Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada encontra-se organizado em seis capítulos. No primeiro é realizado um enquadramento teórico, relativamente ao estudo. No segundo é feita a revisão de literatura. No terceiro é feita uma abordagem sobre o Instituto dos Pupilos do Exército. No quarto é feita uma descrição dos métodos e procedimentos utilizados no decorrer da investigação. No quinto é feita a apresentação e análise dos resultados. No último capítulo são retiradas as respetivas ilações e feitas as recomendações. Conclui-se que existem mecanismos de ensino no Instituto dos Pupilos do Exército que permitem o desenvolvimento da capacidade de liderança nos alunos. As principais dificuldades que os alunos enfrentam, neste caso os denominados Alunos Graduados,aquando do exercício das funções de liderança, são, principalmente, a falta de cooperação de alguns dos alunos que fazem parte da cadeia de comando, mas que são subordinados. Verifica-se que os estilos de liderança que são mais usados no seio do Corpo de Alunos do Instituto são o estilo liberal, do Aluno Comandante de Batalhão para os Alunos Comandantes de Companhia, e o estilo democrático, entre os Alunos Comandantes de Companhia e os Alunos Comandantes de Pelotão.

Abstract This Applied Research Work is under the theme: "Leadership and Co-leadership: The Command Management of Companies of Students on a Military Establishment of Teaching." The concept of leadership has always been present since the beginning of mankind, even if implicitly. However, nowadays it becomes even more important to approach and explain this concept. Military Establishments of Teaching, in this case in the Army Institute of Pupils, is pertinent instruct students about the way they should develop leadership skills. In a way, due to the age of the students, the process becomes more complicated and time consuming. Leadership and Co-leadership, in the Army Institute of Pupils, are two concepts that are and have always been present. That is, there are a number of officers in positions of command in the environment of students, putting thus in practice the concept of leadership, since that will lead the students. In turn, students with command functions, the designated Graduates Students, put into practice the Coleadership, which is a leadership split between the students and that is controlled by the monitors, in this case the officers. The goal set for this work aims to question the answers to research questions, with the last attempt to answer the main question: "In the field of graduates’ structure, which are the most significant challenges of leadership at the Students command of Companies?" Regarding the methodology, it is important to note that it was followed the steps outlined by Marie-Fabienne Fortin, in which the collection of information was based on surveys by interviews, surveys by questionnaires, library research and documentation,as well as direct observations. This Work Applied Research is organized into six chapters. The first one is carried theoretical framework for the study. The second is made literature review. On the third is made an approach about the Army Institute of Pupils. On the fourth is made a description of the methods and procedures used during the investigation. On the fifth is made the presentation and analysis of results. On the last chapter is taken the respective conclusions, as well as the recommendations are made. It concludes that there are mechanisms in education Army Institute of Pupils that allow the development of leadership skills in students. The main difficulties that students face,in this case called Graduates Students, when put into practice their leadership roles, are mainly the lack of cooperation by some of the other students who are part of the chain of command, but subordinates. It appears that the leadership styles that are commonly used among the Students in the Institute are liberal style, from the Student Battalion Commander for Students Company Commander and democratic style, between the Students Company Commander and the Students Platoon Commander.
