O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada está subordinado ao tema “Debate Motorização/Mecanização no Exército Português – do projeto à primeira unidade mecanizada”. O tema motorização e mecanização foi ganhando importância no seio do Exército ao longo dos tempos, pois está diretamente associado à necessidade de melhorar as forças armadas para fazerem face às novas ameaças que começavam a surgir. Posto isto, esta investigação visa estudar a forma como o debate interno entre os Oficiais do Exército influenciou a constituição de uma unidade mecanizada e como se constituiu uma unidade desse género. Os objetivos definidos ao longo do trabalho pretendem obter uma resposta para as perguntas derivadas levantadas, culminando com uma resposta à pergunta de partida. A metodologia utilizada na elaboração deste trabalho respeitou as etapas esquematizadas por Marie-Fabienne Fortin, tendo utilizado a recolha bibliográfica para a recolha de informação. O Trabalho de Investigação encontra-se estruturado em seis capítulos: o primeiro capítulo remete para a apresentação do trabalho; o segundo para a revisão da literatura onde mostramos a realidade mundial; o terceiro elenca a evolução do conceito de motorização e mecanização no Exército, levantando o problema de se constituir outra arma ou se estes meios ocupariam um lugar dentro da arma de cavalaria; o quarto capítulo fala da origem e constituição da primeira unidade mecanizada do país; o penúltimo capítulo demonstra o caso Espanhol, pois era o país que mais ameaçava a defesa de Portugal; por fim, são tecidas umas breves conclusões e algumas recomendações para futuras investigações nesta área. Concluiu-se que, a discussão aparece em Portugal no final dos anos trinta, evoluindo até ao início dos anos quarenta com a criação da primeira unidade mecanizada do país. Esta unidade teria a sua sede na Amadora. Alguns dos Oficiais portugueses tiveram grande influência neste sentido, pois argumentavam e davam soluções aos entraves que eram colocados às unidades deste género.

Abstract The Applied Research Work is entitled "Debate motorization / mechanization in the Portuguese Army - from the design to first mechanized unit." The theme motorization and mechanization has been gaining importance within the Army over the time because it is directly associated with the need to improve the armed forces to tackle new threats that were beginning to emerge. That said, this research aims to study how the internal debate among the army officers influenced the creation of a mechanized unit and was constituted as a unit like that. The goals set throughout the work seek an answer to the questions raised derived, culminating with an answer to the initial question. The methodology used in preparing this report complied with the steps outlined by Marie-Fabienne Fortin, having used the bibliographic collection for the collection of information. The Work Research is structured into six chapters: The first chapter refers to the presentation of the work; the second for the review of the literature which show the global reality; the third lists the evolution of the concept of motorization and mechanization in the army, raising the problem of setting up another weapon or if these means occupy a place in the cavalry weapon; the fourth chapter speaks of the origin and formation of the first mechanized unit of the country; the penultimate chapter demonstrates the Spanish case, it was the country that threatened the defense of Portugal; finally, they are woven some brief conclusions and some recommendations for future research in this area. In conclusion, the discussion appears in Portugal in the late thirties evolving until the beginning of the fourth year with the creation of the first mechanized unit in the country. This unit would have its headquarters in Amadora. Some of Portuguese officials were influential in this sense, as argued and gave solutions to the obstacles that were put to the units of this kind.
