Este trabalho intitulado “A MADEIRA E A DESCOLONIZAÇÃO – Da História às Narrativas de Vida” é, talvez sobretudo, o resultado dos desafios constantes que esta temática implica: actual, dolorosa e relacional. Foi necessário imprimir alguma sensibilidade para tratar este tema complexo, porque se cruzam contrastes culturais que foram abordados na suposta e conveniente distância das gerações imediatas. No início do trabalho, julgou-se propícia essa suposição, porque se evitariam diálogos exacerbados, quando as paixões já tivessem esmorecido. Não foi essa a conclusão a que chegámos. É nesta problemática que se enquadra o tema e o estudo que concluímos e que, no entanto, permanece em aberto. Serão os futuros trabalhos que abrirão novas perspectivas. Privilegiámos esta nuance porque a descolonização é a consequência da remota política “novecentista” que evoluiu no percurso do século XX e nele encontrou o desfecho. Questionámos as motivações de todos os intervenientes e procurámos interpretações comuns com introdução de soluções para um futuro promissor. Assim, e dadas as dimensões que o tema proporciona, optámos por contextualizar a questão, dando mais ênfase às memórias de uma época expostas nos relatos dos entrevistados. Algumas conclusões foram retiradas dos pontos comuns dessas narrativas autobiográficas. Outras permanecerão na insondável e complexa memória dos que viveram esse fenómeno. O que se pretendia, à partida, vincular a uma visão nova do mundo, só parcialmente contribuirá para um entendimento nas relações entre a Europa, Portugal em particular, e as regiões de África. Com efeito, houve sofrimento no antagonismo das perspectivas de opositores que encontraram no belicismo a forma de atingir os objectivos divergentes, obviamente. Estudámos palcos de guerra onde a sentença internacional já fora determinada. À revelia dos convénios internacionais, nomeadamente da ONU, o regime salazarista teimou no “orgulhosamente sós”. Através deste projecto jamais pretendemos constatar a dicotomia simplista entre colono e colonizado, mas sim analisar as relações entre o europeu e o africano como forma de apreender mundos distintos, sabendo que em África a noção do presente é que prevalece. Esta perspectiva aberta e dialogante permite apresentar aos alunos das escolas do 3º Ciclo e Secundárias da RAM um tema marcante que envolveu as gerações de meados do século XX, mas que ainda é actual. Os meios audiovisuais e a internet facilitarão a tarefa pedagogico-didáctica.
This work entitled "Madeira and the decolonization - From the History to the Narrative of Life" it is perhaps, primarily the result of the constant challenges that this theme includes: the current, sorrowful and relational. It was necessary to bring some sensibility to treat this complex theme, because they cross cultural contrasts that were addressed in the alleged and convenient distance of the immediate generations. In the beginning of the work, it was deemed favorable that assumption, because it would avoid exacerbate dialogues, when passions had already waned. That was not the conclusion we have reached. It is this issue that fits the theme and the study. Future studies will be open to new perspectives. We have given precedence because this nuance is the consequence of decolonization remote policy "nineteenth century" that evolved in the course of the twentieth century and in it found the outcome. Questioned the motives of those involved, we seek common interpretations with the introduction of solutions for a promising future. Thus, given the dimensions that provides the theme we have chosen to contextualize the issue by giving more emphasis to the memories of a time set out in the interviewees' reports. Some conclusions were drawn from the points in common of these autobiographical narratives. Others remain in the complex and inscrutable memory of those who lived through that phenomenon. What was intended from the outset to link to a new vision of the world only partially contribute to an understanding in relations between Europe, particularly Portugal, and regions of Africa. Indeed, there was suffering in the antagonism of the prospects of opponents they faced. We studied theaters of war where the sentence had already been determined internationally. In defiance of international agreements, notably the UN, the Salazar regime insisted on the "splendid isolation". Through this project, we would never want to see the simplistic dichotomy between the settler and the colonized, but to analyze the relationship between Europeans and Africans as a means of grasping different worlds, knowing that in Africa the concept is dominant. This open and dialogic approach allows schools to introduce students of the 3rd cycle and secondary, striking a theme that involved the generation of mid-twentieth century, but that is still the current.
