Este relatório pretende descrever e analisar de forma crítica e reflexiva a execução das atividades realizadas no estágio final bem como as competências mobilizadas e adquiridas com a nossa intervenção. Tomando por base a análise da atual literatura sobre a importância da literacia em saúde mental e sua relação na sobrecarga do familiar cuidador do idoso com doença mental tentou-se perceber as necessidades dos cuidadores familiares, a relação entre o grau de literacia em saúde mental e os níveis de sobrecarga apresentados. O assumir do papel de cuidador familiar leva a um aumento da sobrecarga, dadas as tarefas que passam a desempenhar, a perceção que passam a ter da doença e, por último, das interferências que estes problemas causam nos variados domínios da vida pessoal, provocando problemas a nível físico, psicológico, emocional, social e económico. Assim, sugere-se a psicoeducação como forma de promoção da qualidade de vida do cuidador familiar; ABSTRACT: The importance of literacy in mental illness of the elderly to the Burden of the family caregiver This report intends to describe and analyze in a critic and reflexive way the execution of the activities made in the final internship as well as the skills obtained with our intervention. Based on the analyses of the actual literature about the importance of the literacy in mental health and it´s connection on the burden of the caregiver of the elderly with mental illness, we tried to understand the needs of the family caregiver, the relation between the level of literacy in mental health and the levels of burden presented. Taking the role of family caregiver leads to an increase of burden, due to the tasks that may be played, the perception about the disease and, at last, the interference that these problems may cause on the multiple personal life domains, leading to physical, psychological, emotional, social and economic problems.
