Description
The financial information released by the entities is a key factor for the decision maker, as predicted in EC from CNC and IASB. Therefore, it becomes necessary to investigate the motives that may affect its quality. This investigation’s main goal consists in analyzing if a company’s economic and financial structure can affect the entity’s accounting choices as well as its results. Through the available studies in this thematic, it is possible to notice that there are several variables capable of influencing companies’ results. Thus, this investigation will be focused over the variables Debt, Firm Size and Return on Assets (ROA), stated along the investigations related to this thematic, in order to try to understand their effect in Depreciations. It will also be studied the relationship between the above variables, as it has been mentioned as factors that can lead to influence the company’s results, in order to reflect the companies and management team goals. The study concerns on a group of Portuguese companies, unlisted in stock market, representing several activity sectors and consists of studying the impact of the variables Debt, Firm Size and ROA along the last five fiscal years (from 2012 to 2016) in entities Depreciations, based on its income statements and balance sheets, data that was extracted from database SABI. Based on the exposed, it was possible to conclude that Firm Size and ROA are important variables which affects companies’ Depreciations, since in the model and sample used, they were identified as the statistically significant. Firm size and Depreciations vary in opposite direction, while ROA and Depreciations vary in the same direction.
