The present dissertation investigated the effects of an autonomous training program on basketball shooting performance and kinematics. Fourteen male basketball players, aged 16.57±0.51 years old, were assessed on shooting accuracy and a kinematic analysis of the ball trajectory was also performed, before and after a 5-week training program. Both control group (n=7) and experimental group (n=7) kept up their regular basketball practice; additionally, experimental group performed an autonomous shooting training program. The main results showed that autonomous shooting practice, in addition to formal practice, significantly improves shooting performance of young basketball players. In contrast, reduced changes caused by the autonomous training program were observed on shooting kinematics, most likely due to the absence of external feedback during training process.
