Description

Throughout the twentieth century urban centres have undergone profound changes regarding soil use and occupation. Cities, which have always been the result of the growing social, economic and technological development, have seen their central areas go through a process of valorization and subsequent devaluation, the cradle of economic and industrial development through a progressive process of abandonment. Therefore, it is noticeable in several world cities, the deterioration of residential parks, due to their advanced age, leading to the development of methodologies and technical procedures in order to promote the rehabilitation of buildings that, throughout their lives, began losing their functionality and started deteriorating. Deals with the rehabilitation of buildings in a common way, presenting the different levels of intervention and the various and possible rehabilitation stages as well as the work to be performed on each. It is presented for each country (Portugal and Brazil) the main pathologies encountered and technologies and / or possible rehabilitation solutions used to treat them. Subsequently, we can see the existence or not of differences associated with the treatment of the same type of pathology through a comparative analysis. From the information gathered, based on previous studies, it is clear the prevalence of certain diseases in the construction of the two countries originate from similar causes but the strategies of treatment and rehabilitation are not the same. Some suggestions are also given aiming at further developing and accomplishing of rehabilitation as an essential sector to the construction industry.
