Enquadramento: O adolescente que vivencia um processo de doença crónica experiencia, em paralelo com a transição desenvolvimental, uma transição de saúdedoença. Sabe-se que os significados atribuídos á condição de saúde têm o potencial de facilitar ou inibir estes processos adaptativos influenciando o rumo dos mesmos para resultados saudáveis ou não saudáveis. Objetivo: O presente estudo tem como objetivo determinar quais são os significados que os adolescentes com doença crónica atribuem à sua condição de saúde. Método: Trata-se de uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura com Meta-Síntese segundo o modelo do Instituto Joanna Briggs®. O protocolo de investigação incluiu a pesquisa nas bases de dados EBSCO, PubMed, Scielo e RNCAAP de estudos publicados entre janeiro de 2000 e março de 2018, nos idiomas português e inglês. Os estudos encontrados foram depois avaliados tendo por base os critérios de inclusão previamente estabelecidos. A qualidade metodológica dos estudos foi avaliada através dos instrumentos preconizados pelo Instituto Joanna Briggs®. A meta-agregação e a síntese final das descobertas foi alcançada após discussão. A avaliação das sínteses dos achados foi realizada usando o ConQual Score. Os resultados são apresentados sob a forma de duas sínteses qualitativas agregadas. Resultados: Foram incluídos 10 estudos na revisão sistemática. As duas descobertas sintetizadas foram: 1. A condição crónica é vista pelo adolescente como sendo uma injustiça que o diferencia dos seus pares e que contribui para o seu isolamento. O adolescente, à medida que no seu processo de desenvolvimento aumenta a perceção da condição de ser portador de doença, experiencia sentimentos negativos no seu quotidiano. 2. Com o tempo e com a ajuda dos amigos, o adolescente perceciona benefícios na sua condição crónica de saúde. A tecnologia de apoio à doença é vista como positiva pelo potencial de contribuir para a autonomia dos adolescentes. Conclusão: A doença crónica na adolescência tem um impacto significativo no processo de adolescer, sendo-lhe atribuído um significado negativo pelo isolamento que provoca e pelo sentimento de ser diferente. Os enfermeiros, no sentido de facilitar a adaptação do adolescente, devem ajudá-lo na redefinição dos significados negativos, potenciando os positivos. Abstract Background: The adolescent experiencing a chronic disease process goes through a developmental transition in parallel with a health-disease transition. It is known that the meanings attributed to a health condition have the potencial to facilitate or inhibit these adaptative processes by influencing their course towards healthy or unhealthy results. Objective: The present study aims to determine the meanings that adolescents with chronic disease attribute to their health condition. Methods: This is a Systematic Review of Literature with Meta-Synthesis according to the model of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The research protocol included the research in databases EBSCO, Pubmed, Scielo and RNCAAP of studies published between January 2000 and March 2018, in Portuguese an English. The studies found were then evaluated based on the inclusion criteria previously established. The methodological quality of studies was evaluated through the instruments recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute. The identified studies, as well as the data extraction, were independently conducted by two researchers. The meta-aggregation and the final syntheses of the findings was achieved after discussion. The evaluation of the synthesis of the findings was performed using the ConQual Score. The results are presented in the form of two aggregate qualitative syntheses. Results: Ten studies were included in the systematic review. The two synthesized findings were: 1. The chronic condition is seen by adolescents as an injustice that differentiates them from their peers and contributes to theis isolation. The adolescent, in his developmental process, increases his perception of having a chronic condition and experience negative feelings in his daily life. 2. Over time and with the help of friends, the adolescent perceives benefits in his chonic condition. Techonoly to support disease is seen as positive by the potential to contribute to the adolescent’s autonomy. Conclusion: Chronic disease in adolescence has a significant impact on the growing process and adolescent being given a negative meaning by the isolation it causes and the feeling of being different. Nurses, in order to facilitate the adaptation of the adolescent should help him in redefining the negative meanings, enhancing positive ones.
