Description
ABSTRACT: The market for investment funds has attracted increasing interest from investors as an alternative investment strategy, assuming an increasing relevance among professionals and academics. However, it has been difficult to gather consensus in the literature, regarding the conditionalities of the funds' performance and the relevance they assume. In this sense, this study seeks to contribute to the scientific research, identifying the inducers of the performance of investment funds managed in Portugal. The sample consists of 78 funds, covering the time frame from 2006 to 2016, incorporating stock funds, bond funds, mixed funds and treasury funds, analyzed using the panel data methodology. The results suggest that the most profitable investments are reached in the larger funds with higher commissions. On the other hand, funds with a high-risk category, with more years of activity and with a higher turnover of the portfolio (active management) have lower returns. Additionally, the interest rate establishes an inverse relationship with profitability.
