A "Saúde Mental em Crianças e Jovens em Acolhimento Residencial" constitui o tema desenvolvido neste trabalho de Dissertação de Serviço Social. O objetivo do estudo consistiu em compreender a intervenção da Casa de Acolhimento com crianças e jovens com problemas de saúde mental em acolhimento residencial. A alteração do perfil das crianças e jovens que entram no sistema de acolhimento tem sido evidente, para quem vivencia a experiência no "terreno", sendo confirmado pelos relatórios anuais do Instituto de Segurança Social, os CASA. Este estudo/investigação é o resultado da participação de 58 Casas de Acolhimento distribuídas por Portugal Continental e Arquipélago dos Açores, das quais 52 vivenciam diariamente a problemática da saúde mental junto das suas crianças e jovens. De acordo com o testemunho das Casas de Acolhimento as maiores dificuldades, na intervenção com esta problemática, são a falta de qualificação/habilitação/formação dos seus recursos humanos, assim como a insuficiência em número dos mesmos, para uma intervenção mais individualizada junto destas crianças e jovens. Para as Casas participantes no estudo a melhoria do sistema de acolhimento, no que diz respeito ao acolhimento de crianças e jovens com esta problemática, passa não só pela satisfação das necessidades enumeradas, mas também por uma integração da Área da Saúde Mental no sistema de acolhimento, possibilitando uma resposta mais célere, próxima e regular a nível nacional.
The Mental Health in Children and Youngsters living in a Foster Care is the theme of this academic exercise by Master's Degree in Social Work The purpose of the study is to understand the intervention of the foster care with children and youngsters with mental problems during their stay. The change of the children and youngsters profile that live in the foster care system is remarkable for the professionals who work with them and also confirmed in the annual reports from Portuguese Institute of Social Security, the CASA. This study/investigation was made with the participation of 58 foster care in Portugal including the Açores, of which 52 have experienced daily challenges handling with children and youngsters with mental problems. According to the study participants, the main difficulties in the intervention with this problem is the lack of skills/qualification/training of professionals as well as the reduced number of them, not allowing the individual care that these children and youngsters need. For the study participants the improvement intervention in the foster care with children and youngsters with this problematic, pass by not only from the satisfaction of the described difficulties but as well from an integration of de Mental Health Area in the foster care system will allow a better, faster and more regular national response to the problem.
