Aos olhos de uma sociedade em constante mutação, a profissão de arquiteto é a chave principal na incessante procura de soluções aos diversos problemas sociais. Define-se, essencialmente, por uma profissão de planeamento capaz de atuar no presente e pensar sobre o futuro, recaindo sobre si a forte responsabilidade de assumir o que a todos nos envolve, hoje e amanhã. Numa fase amplamente crítica das ações diretas de cada arquiteto, o fraco investimento e consequente diminuição de trabalho faz desesperar inúmeros jovens arquitetos a cada novo ano, na expetativa de seguir o sonho para que tanto lutaram. Numa profissão cada vez mais fustigada pela crise económica que se instalou em Portugal em 2008, torna-se essencial repensar a sua estrutura e ligação direta ao mercado de trabalho, procurando mudar o futuro mais próximo. Esta realidade vem colocar à prova as competências de um profissional em arquitetura, abrindo novas opções em diferentes eixos da sociedade. Marcadamente jovem e abrangente no seu leque de ações, o arquiteto tem vindo a procurar alternativas práticas na sua profissão de modo a encontrar a sua estabilidade profissional e financeira. Num longo de trabalho e pesquisa, procura-se definir o que é a profissão de arquiteto atualmente em exercício em Portugal, encontrando caminhos de ação noutras áreas fora da arquitetura. Numa primeira fase, uma breve apresentação da profissão de arquiteto, nomeadamente das suas funções na área profissional e a evolução em Portugal. De salientar a tensão entre vocação e profissão, muito debatida no seio da sociologia das profissões. Numa segunda parte, sublinha-se a diferença entre os cursos de arquitetura do ensino superior em Portugal, destacando os pontos positivos e negativos na formação, comprovados com inquéritos a atuais estudantes e recém-formados em arquitetura, resultando num breve estado da profissão. Por fim, destacam-se as opções fora da arquitetura pelas quais o arquiteto tem optado nos últimos anos, numa coleção de testemunhos reais de recém-diplomados em busca da sua estabilidade noutras áreas. Não é apenas um trabalho de investigação. É uma conclusão de que o panorama arquitetónico português precisa de ser repensado e estruturado. É um alerta para a situação de milhares de jovens arquitetos em busca de um sonho. É a realidade da profissão de arquiteto em Portugal. Mas acima de tudo, a procura de uma solução, e a abertura de novos caminhos nas funções do arquiteto.
In the eyes of a constantly changing society, the architectural profession is the main key in the incessant search for solutions to various social problems. It is defined mainly by a profession of planning capable of acting in the present and thinking about the future, that regards and bears strong responsibility about what surrounds everyone, today and tomorrow. A broadly critical phase of the direct actions of each architect, weak investment and consequent reduction of work is despairing countless young architects every year, with the expectation of following the dream for witch they fought so hard. A profession increasingly buffeted by the economic crisis that has taken place in Portugal in 2008, it is essential to rethink its structure and direct link to the labour market, seeking to change the near future. This reality has been put to the test the skills of a professional in architecture, opening up new options in different axes of society. Markedly young and comprehensive in its range of actions, the architect has been looking for alternative practices in his/her profession in order to meet professional and financial stability. In a long research work, this dissertation seeks to define what is currently the architecture profession in Portugal, finding courses of action in other areas outside of architecture. Initially, a brief presentation of the architectural profession is presented, in particular the functions in the professional field and the evolution in Portugal. The tension between vocation and profession, much debated within the sociology of professions. The second part highlights the difference between academic architecture programs in higher education in Portugal, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses in training, proven by surveys of current students and recent graduates in architecture, resulting in a brief state of the profession. Finally, the professional options outside architecture that have been the option for architects in recent years are highlighted, through a collection of real testimonies of recent graduates in search of stability in other areas. It is not just a research work. It is a conclusion that the actual landscape Portuguese architecture needs to be rethought and restructured. It is an alert to the situation of thousands of young architects in search of a dream. It is the reality of the architectural profession in Portugal. But above all, the search for a solution, and the opening of new paths in the architect functions.
