Este estudo tem por objectivo reflectir sobre a dimensão espácio-temporal que a residência artística encerra como lugar de criação artística. Acenta num estudo de caso, a instituição Espaço do Tempo, implementada no Convento da Saudação, em Montemor-o-Novo, onde se recorreu à entrevista semi-directiva como técnica de recolha de dados. A coincidência entre a temática deste estudo e o nome da instituição manifesta claramente a adequação deste espaço ao tema a tratar. A sua escolha prendeuse com o facto deste espaço ter permanecido como um local de clausura/retiro. O Convento da Saudação, antigo local de recolhimento da ordem dominicana, contempla o mesmo propósito, mas direccionado à construção artística. Pretendeu-se explorar as especificidades inerentes ao lugar, um espaço em que o artista se afasta do seu quotidiano, focando a sua concentração na obra, sendo de notar o “alongamento do tempo” pois é permitido criar efectivamente a qualquer momento do dia. Ao estar disponível mais horas para criar, está também mais disponível para a sua interioridade, uma vez que abstrai a atenção do seu quotidiano e o seu foco é direccionado para si mesmo e para a obra. Para além de ser um espaço de individualidade do artista, exalta igualmente o diálogo interpessoal, tanto entre artistas que englobam o mesmo projecto artístico, mas também entre artistas de projectos distintos e membros da equipa da instituição, dada a partilha espacial. Assim, as características do lugar fazem com que o rumo da obra se torne peculiar, já que o espaço pode ser interventivo, através da incorporação do lugar na obra ou da interpenetração da obra no espaço, sendo factores determinantes a este nível o silêncio e a paisagem. Evidencia-se sobretudo, a criação de condições de valorização do processo de elaboração e experimentação, isto é, do próprio fazer.
The purpose of this study is to reflect into the space-time dimension which the artistic residence holds as place for the artistic creation. Resting upon a case study, the “Espaço do Tempo” Institution, was implemented at the “Convento da Saudação” in Montemor-o-Novo, where semi-direct interview was used as a data gathering technique. The coincidence between the theme of this study and the name of this institution clearly fits the space to the theme. Its choice was due to the fact that this space has remained a place of closure and retreat. The “Convento da Saudação”, ancient place of gathering of the Dominicans, covers the same purpose, but focused on the artistic construction. Intended to explore the specific nature of the place, a space on which the artist drifts from the everyday life, focusing on its work, being noteworthy the "stretching of time" for he is allowed to effectively create at any time during the day. Being available to create for more hours, he is also available for his own inner self, as he abstracts the attention of his daily life and his focus is directed to himself and his work. Beyond a space for artistic individuality, it equally exalts dialogue, not only between artists of the same art project, but also between artists of different fields and members of the institution, given the sharing of the same space. Thus, the characteristics of the place make that the flow of the work becomes peculiar, given that space can be interventive, through the incorporation of the place in the work or the penetration of the work in the space, being key factors at this level the silence and the landscape. Above all, the creation of conditions for increased value of the elaboration and experimentation process, that is, the making in of itself.
