Esta dissertação centra-se na representação LGBTQIA+ nas redes sociais. Por ser uma comunidade muitas vezes marginalizada e com falta de representação na televisão, no cinema, na música e até no quotidiano, muitos dependem da internet para se sentirem mais representados, seja através do convívio com pessoas da comunidade nas redes sociais e da criação de grupos de discussão de séries ou filmes, da criação de blogs, ou até da escrita e/ou leitura de fanfiction sobre personagens ficcionais já existentes. Tudo isto pode contribuir para fomentar o sentimento de pertença e de validação das pessoas. As redes sociais podem contribuir para essa representação não só através dessas características, mas também através da criação de webséries e curtas-metragens, à semelhança de qualquer outro media como a televisão ou o cinema. Como exemplo disso, será analisada a websérie Carmilla, muito popular entre a comunidade LGBTQIA+.

This dissertation focuses on LGBTQIA+ representation on social media. Because this community is still often marginalized and suffers from a lack of representation on television, cinema, music and even in daily life, many of its members depend on the internet so as to feel more represented, whether through conviviality with other people from the community on social media, the creation of discussion groups on TV shows or movies, the creation of blogs, or even the writing and/or reading of fanfiction about fictional characters created in already existing media. All of this can contribute to promoting the feeling of belonging and validation. Social media can indeed foster this representation, not only through all of the above, but also through the creation of web series and short films, similarly to television or film. As an example of this, we will analyse the web series Carmilla, due to its high popularity among the LGBTQIA+ community.
