Avaliação utilizando múltiplos: PSI20 vs IBEX35

O objectivo principal desta dissertação é comparar a rendibilidade do principal índice português (PSI20) com a do principal índice espanhol (IBEX35), para o período compreendido entre 1998 e 2008, utilizando para esse efeito alguns indicadores de avaliação relativa. Com base na disponibilidade de dados históricos existentes foram escolhidos 3 indicadores: “Price Earnings Ratio (P/E)”, “Dividend Yield (DY)” e o “Price to Book Value (PBV)”. Os resultados sugerem que, no período estudado, os índices apresentam rendibilidades estatísticamente semelhantes. No entanto, o mercado português parece estar subavaliado em relação ao mercado espanhol visto que os indicadores P/E e o PBV têm médias estatísticamente inferiores no PSI20 face às médias existentes desses mesmos indicadores no IBEX35, enquanto que para o indicador “Dividend Yield”, sucede o inverso, ou seja, o PSI20 apresenta uma média, entre 1998 e 2008, superior à média do “Dividend Yield” no IBEX35.

The main objective of this study is to compare the yield and some multiples for the Portuguese index (PSI20) and the Spanish index (IBEX35), for the period between 1998 and 2008. Three multiples were chosen using available historic data: Price Earnings Ratio (P/E), Dividend Yield (DY) and Price to Book Value (PBV). The results suggests, that for the period of the study, the index PSI20 and IBEX 35 have statistic similar yield averages, however, the Portuguese market seems to be undervalued compared to the Spanish one, since for the multiple P/E and PBV the average statistic yield for PSI20 is lower than in IBEX35 index. While for the multiple Dividend Yield, the inverse results occurred, meaning that PSI20 index has a statistic average yield greater than the average yield of IBEX35 index, for the period between 1998 to 2008.
