O envolvimento parental refere-se a todas as actividades realizadas pelos pais na educa??o dos filhos. Os pais desempenham um papel fundamental no processo de escolaridade dos filhos. Um dos aspectos que mais influencia a qualidade do envolvimento parental na escolariza??o dos filhos ? o n?vel sociocultural dos pais. Entende-se por n?vel sociocultural todo o tipo de experi?ncias sociais e culturais que a crian?a tem acesso na fam?lia. O objectivo principal deste estudo ? avaliar a rela??o entre o n?vel sociocultural das fam?lias e o envolvimento parental na escolaridade dos filhos. S?o objectivos complementares desta investiga??o, verificar quais os factores socioculturais que est?o mais significativamente associados ao envolvimento parental na escolariza??o dos filhos e quais as dimens?es comportamentais deste envolvimento que mais contribuem para adapta??o escolar dos filhos. Para concretizar estes objectivos, foi realizado um estudo epidemiol?gico descritivo, em corte transversal, a fim de avaliar uma amostra de 92 pais de alunos do 1? Ciclo do ensino b?sico pertencentes ao agrupamento de escolas do concelho de Coimbra. O protocolo de investiga??o ? constitu?do pelo question?rio de envolvimento parental na escola, vers?o para pais (QEPE, Pereira, 2002), e a escala de Graffar adaptada ? popula??o portuguesa, para avaliar o n?vel sociocultural das fam?lias dos alunos. Os resultados obtidos revelam que as fam?lias com um n?vel sociocultural mais elevado apresentam um maior envolvimento na escolaridade dos filhos. Verificamos que os factores socioculturais mais significativamente associados ? qualidade do envolvimento dos pais s?o a profiss?o e o n?vel de instru??o do chefe de fam?lia. Verific?mos, ainda, que as dimens?es comportamentais mais privilegiadas pelos pais na escolaridade dos filhos s?o as actividades de aprendizagem em casa, comunica??o escola-fam?lia e actividades na escola e reuni?es de pais. Conclu?mos que o n?vel sociocultural influencia a qualidade do envolvimento parental. O n?vel de escolaridade e a profiss?o dos pais s?o factores determinantes para a qualidade desse envolvimento. /
Parental involvement refers to all activities carried out by parents for the education of children. Parents play a key role in the process of their children schooling. One of the aspects that influence the quality of parental involvement in education of children is the socio-cultural level that the parents present. Sociocultural level regards all sorts of social and cultural experiences that the child has access in the family. The main goal of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the sociocultural level of families and parental involvement in their children schooling. The further objectives of this research regard checking which socio-cultural factors are the most significantly associated with parental involvement in education of children and which are the behavioral dimensions of this involvement that most contribute to school adjustment of children. To achieve these objectives, an epidemiological descriptive study has been conducted in a sample of 92 parents of primary school students from the grouping of schools of Coimbra municipality. The research protocol consisted in the questionnaire for parental involvement in school, parent version (QEPE. Pereira, 2002), and the Graffar scale, adapted to the Portuguese population (in order to evaluate the socio-cultural status of students' families) The results showed that families with a higher social-cultural level have a greater involvement in schooling. We verified that the social-cultural factors most significantly associated with the quality of parental involvement are the profession and educational level of the household head. We note that the behavioral dimensions most privileged by parents in their children?s schooling are the learning activities at home, school-family communication, activities in the school and parent meetings. Therefore, we conclude that social-cultural level influences the quality of parental involvement. The educational level and occupation of parents are crucial to the quality of that involvement.
