Este estudo, de natureza quantitativo, correlacional e transversal, debru?ou-se sobre as expetativas futuras, a autoestima e as figuras significativas de jovens institucionalizados. Esta investiga??o teve como objetivos conhecer as caracter?sticas sociodemogr?ficas dos jovens institucionalizados no Lar de S?o Martinho, na Casa da Crian?as de Santo Ant?nio e Lar ?O Girassol?; conhecer as caracter?sticas relativas ao processo de institucionaliza??o; conhecer as figuras significativas; analisar a rela??o existente entre algumas caracter?sticas sociodemogr?ficas (Idade e G?nero) e a autoestima dos jovens; analisar a rela??o existente entre algumas caracter?sticas relativas ao processo de institucionaliza??o (Motivo de Institucionaliza??o e Tempo de Permanecia na Institui??o) e a autoestima e por ultimo conhecer as expectativas futuras destes jovens. A amostra foi constitu?da por 41 jovens institucionalizados no distrito de Coimbra com idades compreendidas entre 11 e os 22 anos de idade, sendo que 12 eram do sexo feminino e 29 do sexo masculino. Foram utilizados como instrumentos, o question?rio sociodemogr?fico, o Invent?rio de autoestima de Coopersmith, a escala General Self, que pretende estimar a autoestima e o Question?rio de Liga??o a Figuras Significativas ? QLFS. Como principais resultados podemos concluir que os jovens no estudo revelaram ter expectativas em rela??o aos projetos futuros. Foi poss?vel verificar que estabelecem rela??es de afeto, de seguran?a e confian?a com t?cnicos, funcion?rios das institui??es e com grupos de pares, e por ?ltimo foi ainda poss?vel verificar que a autoestima ? mais baixa quando o motivo de institucionaliza??o esta associado ao abandono, neglig?ncia e viol?ncia familiar. / This study, of quantitative, correlational and transversal nature, has leaned on future expectations, self-esteem and the significant figures of institutionalized youth. This investigation has had as purposes to know the sociodemographic characteristics of the institutionalized youth at the Saint Martinho's Home, at the House of Saint Antonio's Children and the House of the Sunflower; to know the characteristics concerning the institutionalization process: to know the significant figures; to analyze the relationship that exists between some sociodemographic characteristics (age and gender) and the selfesteem of the youth; to analyze the relationship that exists between some characteristics regarding the institutionalization process (Reason for institutionalization and Time of permanency in the Institution) and the selfesteem and, lastly to know the future expectations of these young people. The sample was composed by 41 young people institutionalized in the district of Coimbra with ages that range from 11 and 22 years old, being that 12 of them were of the female gender and 29 of the male gender. As instruments they were used the sociodemographic questionaire, Coopersmith's selfesteem Inventory, The General Self scale which aims to assess selfesteem and the Questionaire of Attachment to Significant Figures - QASF. As main results we can conlude that the youth in the study revealed to have expectations regarding future projects. It was possible to verify that they establish relationships of afection, safety and confidence with technicians, institution employees and their peers and also, it was also possible to observe that selesteem is lower when the reason for institutionalization is associated with abandonment, negligence and family violence.
