Description

Tese de mestrado, Museologia e museografia, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Belas Artes, 2014

This project aims to identify and resolve problems in the relationship between the public / observer. Developed with the aim of studying the Chinese funerary ceramic as objects of museum value, through a case study, the Museum of Cultural and Scientific Centre of Macau. The Chinese funerary ceramics possess a message that goes beyond technology and artistic beauty, representing a continuous culture whose evolution allows us to understand the roots and foundations of Chinese customs. Thus, to devise an exhibition is essential to understand the complexity of a civilization that predates European. Currently, the message to be transmitted, the objects to be exposed and their value as museum object, are valued according to a "Portuguese taste" descendant of the European notion of Chinese exoticism. However their interpretation needs necessarily to differentiate itself from this "taste”, because it is not a " European culture”, but an Other whose complete understanding can only be achieved through itself. It is essential to their understanding and knowledge, the realization of a different exposure model of the standard, which allows overcoming the gap developed by cultural and symbolic decontextualization. Changing the existing experience to a methodology based on a scenographic organized space, for the accessibility of the greatest possible number of individuals, regardless of their difficulties or language. The Museum is an institution whose main objective is the preservation of its heritage and educating the population about the acquired assets. A goal that can only be achieved through the appreciation of the pieces by the general public, in understanding its importance as an artistic and cultural heritage, whose meaning and value worth preserving. A purpose that can be achieved only through the correct transmission of the message inherent in the object and the intimate and personal relationship which should be established between the public and the object. The value assigned to a piece by the Chinese people of Europe will not be the same as the one assigned by her native people. But it is crucial that this "value" is actually recognized. Regardless of its materiality, functionality, or artistic value, an object museum is a bridge of communication between nations
