A população geriátrica carece de especial atenção no que diz respeito à interpretação dos resultados laboratoriais em análises clínicas pois trata-se de um grupo especial mas muito representativo relativamente ao total de indivíduos que realizam análises nos laboratórios. As alterações fisiológicas causadas pelo envelhecimento vão naturalmente reflectir-se nos resultados obtidos em exames e testes laboratoriais, sendo que a interpretação dos resultados laboratoriais de um idoso apresenta alguns desafios. Desta forma, apresentamos aqui as alterações mais comuns no idoso, contemplando a função renal, função hepática, função cardiovascular e função endócrina. Os valores de referência são um dos pontos mais sensíveis aquando da interpretação das análises dos idosos, uma vez que o clínico terá que ter em linha de conta todas as alterações fisiológicas ou fisiopatológicas decorrentes do processo de envelhecimento.
The geriatric population needs particular attention as regards the interpretation of the laboratory results in clinical analysis because it is a special group very representative in relation to the total of individuals who carry out analysis in laboratories. The physiological changes caused by aging significantly interfere with the functioning of the systems and organs, which of course is reflected in the results obtained in the examinations and laboratory tests, being that the interpretation of the laboratory results of an elderly presents some challenges. In this way, we are presenting here what are the most common changes in elderly’s analysis, contemplating the renal function, liver, cardiovascular function and endocrine function. The reference values are one of the most sensitive points during the interpretation of the analysis of the elderly, since we will have to take into consideration all the physiological and physiopathological changes of the aging process.
O presente documento consiste no elemento de avaliação final do Curso de Mestrado em Análises Clínicas da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa. Este trabalho é constituído pelo Relatório de Estágio, na qual é apresentado o local de estágio e a sua caracterização, bem como a descrição de cada uma das valências abrangidas, com ênfase sobre os ensaios realizados, controlo de qualidade interno e a avaliação externa da qualidade. Este estágio curricular do Mestrado em Análises Clínicas decorreu no Laboratório do Hospital de Santiago, o qual pertence ao Grupo General Lab, no qual foram abrangidas diferentes valências tais como Bioquímica, Imunologia, Hematologia e Microbiologia. Cada uma das diversas áreas analíticas.
The present document represents the element of final evaluation of the Master in Clinical Analysis of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. This paper work is the Internship Report, in which it is presented the location and its characterization, as well as the description of each of the valences covered, with emphasis on the assays performed, the internal quality control and external evaluation of quality. This curricular internship was conducted in the Laboratory of the Hospital de Santiago, which belongs to General Lab group, where the following internship areas were performed: Biochemistry, Immunology, Hematology and Microbiology.
