Description
The aim of this paper is to present some preliminary results of two research projects which analyze the role of the ancient Myrtilis during the Iron Age and the first centuries of Roman occupation, as an important port of trade in the Mediterranean and Atlantic contexts, and as a capital oppidum in the context of human settlement along the Guadiana river. The results presented in this paper are a stepping stone for further investigations about this oppidum and its territory, thanks to the study of the archaeological record identified during the excavations of Mértola’s public library.
