Ao escrever as suas obras, J. R. R. Tolkien tinha em mente uma grandeza para além da simples criação literária ou da possível fama que pudesse advir do seu próprio sucesso. Ele quis criar Sub-criar uma Mitologia para a sua terra natal: Inglaterra. No entanto, rapidamente começou a entender que o alcance da sua obra seria maior. Pela análise de dois dos seus menos conhecidos textos, um do início da sua carreira o poema Mythopoeia e outro dos seus últimos anos de produção literária o diálogo Athabeth Finrod ah Andreth e da relação entre estes textos e as obras sobre o universo da Terra Média The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings e The Silmarillion, mostraremos como o trabalho da vida do autor foi inscrito na História e no Cristianismo, mais especificamente na esfera do Catolicismo.
J. R. R. Tolkien, while producing his works, had in mind greatness beyond the simple literary creation or the possible fame that could arise from his success. He wanted to devise Subcreate a Mythology for his homeland: England. However, soon he began to realise that his work would go further than this. By the analysis of two of his less known texts, one from the beginning of his career the poem Mythopoeia and the other one from his last years of literary production the dialogue Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth and the relation between these texts and the pieces of work on Middle-earth The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, we will show how the work of the author's lifetime has been inscribed in History and in Christianity, more specifically in the Catholic sphere.
