There is nowadays, in portuguese schools, a growing number of students who have come from other countries and are now facing serious difficulties in their process of integration, whether it is because they do not share the language of teaching, or because they come from a culture which is substantially different from the Portuguese. Teachers have observed this new reality in schools with some caution, waiting for new resources to deal with it. We believe that we're living in the age of interculturality, when all cultures should inhabit the same space and conflicts should be overcome. Therefore, it has been created, in a primary school in Lisbon, the Portuguese Club, which can be considered as an educational device which has the main goal of helping foreign students through their process of integration in a new school environment and consequent acquisition of a second language, through the cooperation between Portuguese and foreign students. The activities of this Club are based mainly in group work. Making use of a Research/Action methodology, the author of this innovation introduced new practices and reflected upon these as the Club developed throughout the school year 2006/2007. It is worth noting that the students involved in this Club improved their results in Portuguese and the process of integration in their own classrooms was clearly positive.

Há nas escolas portuguesas cada vez mais alunos recém-chegados de outros países que enfrentam grandes dificuldades na sua integração, ora por não conhecerem a língua de escolarização ora porque provêm de culturas muito distintas e diferentes da portuguesa. Quanto aos professores, encaram esta tendência com alguma expectativa, aguardando novos recursos para lidar com esta nova situação. Nós acreditamos que estamos na era da interculturalidade em que todas as culturas deve conviver no mesmo espaço e onde os conflitos sejam dissipados. É nesta linha que surge o Clube de Português, numa escola do ensino básico da cidade de Lisboa, um dispositivo educativo que tem como principal objectivo ajudar os alunos imigrantes na sua integração numa realidade escolar e a consequente aquisição da língua segunda através da cooperação entre alunos portugueses e estrangeiros. As actividades deste Clube são baseadas, na sua grande maioria, em trabalho de grupo utilizando uma metodologia de Investigação - Acção, a autora desta inovação foi incorporando novas práticas e reflectindo sobre as mesmas, à medida que o Clube se foi desenvolvendo, no ano lectivo de 2006/2007. Salienta-se que os alunos envolvidos aumentaram os seus resultados em língua portuguesa e que a integração nas turmas às quais pertenciam foi positiva.
