As transformações que gradualmente verificamos no nosso planeta apresentam-se como as principais causas da mudança de pensamento e dos padrões de acção do Homem. Os novos paradigmas põem em causa o acesso à habitação de milhões de pessoas e, paralelamente, criam a perspectiva de uma maior abertura à criatividade, que nos poderá conduzir a novos campos de actuação na arquitectura. O problema da falta de habitação é cada vez mais recorrente. Cabe-nos enquanto Arquitectos, criar oportunidades de inclusão tendentes a pôr cobro à restrição à habitação. Para isso, devemos estudar as realidades que levam à falta de habitação, com o intuito de entender as suas causas e procurar soluções possíveis para este problema. É vital rever as nossas acções passadas para entender o que falhou, tendo em conta que existem milhões de pessoas a sobreviver em condições sub-humanas. Pensamos que a arquitectura e a ética devem seguir lado a lado, alimentando a esperança no presente e criando melhores condições de vida para o futuro. Cabe-nos o papel de colaborar no processo de dotar as comunidades desfavorecidas de meios que promovam o seu bem-estar e o seu desenvolvimento. Através da partilha de conhecimento técnico com aqueles que precisam de nós, tentaremos fazer mais com menos, desenvolvendo meios alternativos de construir um abrigo e uma vida melhor.

The transformations that we gradually see on our planet appear as the main causes of the change of thought and patterns of hurnan action. The new paradigms question the access to housing to millions of people and, in addition, create us the outlook of a greater openness to creativity, that could lead to new fields of action in architecture. The problem of homelessness is increasingly recurrent. It behooves us, as Architects, create opportunities for inclusion designed to end the restriction on housing. For this, we must study the realities that lead to homelessness, in order to understand their causes and find possible solutions to this problem. lt is vital to review our past actions to understand what failed, as there are still people surviving in subhuman conditions. We think that architecture and ethics should go hand in hand, feeding hope in the present and creating a better life for the fulure. lt’s in our hands the role of collaborating in the process of equipping disadvantaged communities in ways that promote their welfare and development. By sharing expertise with those who need us, we’ll try to do more with less, developing alternative ways of building a shelter and a better life.
