Sendo oriunda da Venezuela fazia sentido para mim escolher um tema que interligasse as minhas experiências culturais, estabelecendo uma ponte entre o Continente em que eu nasci e cresci (América do Sul) e o Continente onde me formei e habito (Europa). A arquitectura colonial desperta-me a atenção porque pode ser vista como uma troca de experiências entre duas realidades culturais diferentes. Ambas as partes têm influência no desenvolvimento de uma nova linguagem arquitectónica, motivada por diversos factores como o clima, a morfologia do terreno, os materiais encontrados e a população autóctone Assim, esta dissertação desenvolver-se-a sobre o tema da arquitectura colonial, neste caso especifico na cidade de Coro, estudando-se a sua origem, a sua evolução e em especial o seu património histórico arquitectónico e urbano.
Choosing a theme that connects my cultural experiences suits me perfectly, given the fact I am originally from Venezuela, thus making a bridge between the continent I was born and raised (South America) and the one where live and graduated. (Europe). Colonial architecture was brought to my attention as it can be seen as an exchange of experiences between two different cultural realities. Both realities influence the development of a new architectural language, motivated by a diversity of factors as clime, terrain’s morphology, found materials and the autochthonous population. As such, the dissertation I hereby present to you will develop around the colonial architecture theme, more specifically in the Coro city (Venezuela), where it will be studied its origin, evolution and most specially its historical architectonic and urban patrimone.
