O tempo, série interrupta e eternal de instantes, pode revelar-se através da extensão e do desenvolvimento das cidades. Isto porque, ao longo do tempo, na arquitectura, podem ser observadas mudanças, quer em termos culturais, construtivos, memoriais, existindo relações e adaptações perceptíveis no edificado pré-existente. Através do estudo presente, a adição, como processo de actuação do Homem ao longo do tempo na sua arquitectura, revela-se no edificado de modo simbiótico. Este método de operar tem-se adaptado de modo estratégico, refelctindo um pensamento um pensamento que se relaciona com diferentes aspectos, que condicionam a relação do edifício com o seu lugar e com a própria sociedade. Esta dissertação procura compreender o papel da adição perante uma pré-existência construída. Estuda-se o processo evolutivo e compositivo dos edifícios, quer a nível histórico, quer na sua influência sobre a memória e significado para a evolução do existente. São estudados diferentes tipos de actuação na pré-existência arquitectónica – inclusão, intersecção, justaposição, exclusão, subtracção e aglutinação. Todos eles se manifestam de diferentes modos, permitindo identificar comportamentos interventivos do ser humano na arquitectura anterior à do seu próprio tempo.
The time, series interrupts and eternal of instants, demonstrates an extension and a development of the cities. When acting in the building, before the pre-existence, changes are observed, at a temporal, cultural and memorial level, existing, relationships and adaptations to the old building. Through the present study, the addition, as a process of architecture, acts in the building in a symbiotic way. In architecture, this method of adding, has been strategically adapted, demonstrating an in-depth thinking in several fields, which condition the relation of place and society. Therefore, this dissertation seeks to understand the role of addition, before a built preexistence. Studying, its evolutionary and compositional process, both at historical level and in modern and contemporary performance before the memory and evolution of the existing. Different types and modes of action in the pre-existence in architecture - inclusion, intersection, juxtaposition, exclusion, subtraction and joint are studied, all of them act in different ways, thus allowing to demonstrate some human intervention behaviors regarding addition. Therefore, the process of addition, demonstrates an analysis and explanatory comparison with methods applied to medicine, imposing theories of addition, so as to understand the projects analyzed, which, through this theme are rehabilitated and developed before the contemporary.
