The main objetive of this thesis is to analyse and understand the opinions of teachers about the curriculum in the educational context of full-time schools, given their central involvement in the reinterpretation of curricular practices. The study approach is based on the assumption that full-time school is recognized as a key requirement for the basic schooling of children and adolescents. Accordingly, we focus on full-time and / or the extended day, given their historical and theoretical-conceptual scope, which has been analysed and scrutinised in discussions in recent decades in Brazil on holistic education and the guaranteed right to quality public education. In fact, holistic education has generally been associated with full-time schooling, which reflects an agreed political-organizational and pedagogical model that is distinct from extended school education. This arrangement is characterized by the extension of the school day and involves a different organization of the curriculum with the addition of subjects, content and activities or the transformation of the learning repertoire of the students. However, new perspetives on education trigger new curricular requirements. Thus, whatever the educational initiative, the model or project that is the focus of a new perspetive in human education raises questions about the curriculum as the means by which the education finds practical form. We design the school curriculum, therefore, as the result of socially and historically determined human action, as an education project involving learning objetives that are up for debate and negotiation around values, beliefs, standards, knowledge, understanding and practices reflecting political-economic, ideological, and social group interests. Accordingly, we believe that it is important to gauge teachers' opinions in respect of their understanding of the curriculum from the perspetive of the holistic education of students, particularly because, as curriculum stakeholders and developers, teachers are the thinkers, managers, decision-makers and fundamental mediators of the curriculum - especially of the nature of curricular content in the physical context of the school. However, they have not been invited to participate actively in discussions and curricular decisions that concern them as professionals. This research adopted a qualitative, descriptive-interpretative approach with a methodological orientation based on a case study carried out in a full-time public school in the State of Amazonas, Brazil. Data was collected from semisstructured interviews with teachers, key subjects / participants, and planned and systematized, non-participatory observation and documentary analysis. We chose to process the empirical data using Content Analysis as a theoretical-methodological approach. The analysis shows that teachers' opinions and practices regarding the holistic education curriculum reflect flexible perspetives and a permanent tension between meeting the demands of large-scale evaluations based on curriculum requirements for raising attainment and the values that teachers judge to be important for the holistic education of the students. The teachers reconstruct and recreate the education experiences resulting from full-time teaching and thus ressignify the curriculum. In turn, they face working conditions that impose material and human limitations and condition processes for the reconstruction of the curriculum from the perspetive of full-time holistic education and training.
