O presente trabalho propõe-se definir o movimento hip-hop, identificar e caracterizar as diferentes vertentes que o compõem. É constituído por uma contextualização histórica e social da sua génese, estudo e contextualização nacional das diferentes vertentes (musical, coreográfica e gráfica), estudo da relação do graffiti com a arte, um glossário de termos específicos inerentes à cultura hip-hop e bibliografia. O recurso a testemunhos de protagonistas desta comunidade cultural contribui para o estudo, não apenas das práticas sociais de grupo, mas igualmente dos objectos produzidos, a relação destes com os conceitos que os impulsionam e a forma como circulam e são recebidos socialmente.

This study proposes to define the hip-hop movement, identify and characterize the different expressions of it. It consists of a social and historical context of its origins, national background and study of the different strands (music, choreography and graphic), study of the relationship between graffiti and art, a glossary of specific terms related to the hip-hop culture and bibliography. The use of testimonies of key actors in the cultural community contributes to the study, not only to the knowledge of social practices of the group, but also the objects produced, their connection with the concepts that drive and how they are received and circulate socially.
