O trabalho de investigação apresentado versa sobre a Oposição nas Eleições Presidenciais Portuguesas de 1958: protagonistas, estratégias e balanço. Assim, o estudo está dividido em três capítulos, sendo que o primeiro diz respeito ao enquadramento teórico e concetual do estudo, tendo como matriz a caraterização do regime do Estado Novo. No segundo capítulo abordamos o processo eleitoral, os seus atores e estratégias, destacando a candidatura do general Humberto Delgado e as consequências do resultado do ato eleitoral. O capítulo terceiro, intitulado “memórias políticas”, diz respeito ao trabalho de carácter empírico da dissertação, onde damos conta do protocolo metodológico utilizado (entrevista semiestruturada e análise de conteúdo). Tendo como meta principal o estabelecimento de pontes entre quatro entrevistas feitas a figuras relevantes da sociedade portuguesa – Adriano Moreira, Sérgio Ribeiro, Mário Tomé e Edmundo Pedro - e a contextualização teórica apresentada, foram posteriormente elaboradas grelhas de análise de conteúdo que nos proporcionaram atingir os objetivos previamente estabelecidos. Nesta perspetiva, concluímos que as opiniões dos entrevistados não divergem, de forma significativa, do modo como a história nos tem sido apresentada. No entanto, devemos realçar que encontrámos algumas divergências profundas na forma como eles, enquanto espectadores e atores, sentem a mesma história.
This research work deals with the Opposition in the Portuguese Presidential Elections of 1958: protagonists, strategies and balance. It is divided into in three chapters and the top two are related to the theoretical and conceptual framework of the study and have, as matrix, the characterization of the regime of the Estado Novo, of the oppositions, as well as the characterization of the political system of the referred period. Here we also discuss the electoral process, its actors and strategies, highlighting the candidacy of General Humberto Delgado and the consequences of the elections’ outcome. The Third Chapter, entitled political memories, concerns the empirical nature of the dissertation, where we realize the use of the methodological protocol (semi-structured interview and content analysis). Having as main goal the establishment of bridges between four interviews made to relevant figures of the Portuguese society – Adriano Moreira, Sérgio Ribeiro, Mário Tomé and Edmundo Pedro-and the theoretical contextualization presented, content analysis charts were subsequently drawn up which allowed us to achieve the objectives that were previously proposed. In this perspective, we conclude that the opinions of the interviewed do not differ significantly from the way in which History has been presented to us. However, we must stress that we have found some meaningful differences in the way each one of them feels, as spectator and player the same History.
