Fé e atitude dos portugueses face à homossexualidade

Religião e homossexualidade desde sempre geraram bastante discussão, mantendo até aos nossos dias posições contraditórias. A rejeição da diferença relativamente à orientação sexual dos indivíduos traduz-se no preconceito sexual. Numa sociedade marcadamente heterossexista como a portuguesa, revelou-se pertinente a análise da relação da fé religiosa nas atitudes dos portugueses face à homossexualidade. Outras variáveis foram consideradas e analisadas, tais como, o género, estado civil, idade, habilitações literárias e sua relação com a aceitação ou discriminação dos homossexuais. Através da disponibilização dos instrumentos numa página na internet, o questionário de Santa Clara de Força da Fé Religiosa (QSCFFR) e o questionário de Avaliação das Atitudes dos portugueses face à Homossexualidade (QAAH), foram registadas as respostas de 800 sujeitos. Os resultados obtidos revelam que os portugueses com uma força da fé mais elevada apresentam um maior preconceito homossexual. Relativamente ao género, os homens são mais preconceituosos que as mulheres. Quanto ao estado civil, os portugueses casados são mais preconceituosos. No que respeita à idade, ainda que os resultados apresentem algumas reservas, são as gerações mais novas as que demonstram uma maior tolerância. Para as habilitações literárias verifica-se que os portugueses com mais instrução apresentam uma maior aceitação da homossexualidade. Outros dados analisados indicam que os portugueses se opõem à adoção por parte de casais homossexuais. Podemos concluir que apesar de se verificar uma tendência para a aceitação da homossexualidade entre os portugueses, o preconceito subsiste o que fundamenta o envolvimento de profissionais da Psicologia no desenvolvimento de estratégias que visem o combate a este tipo de discriminação e segregação social.

Religion and homosexuality have always lead to a great deal of discussion, keeping contradictory positions until today. The rejection of the difference concerning the individual’s sexual orientation has lead to sexual prejudice. In an heterosexual society like the Portuguese one, the analysis of the religious faith concerning homosexuality has revealed itself to be of great importance. Other aspects have been considered and analyzed, such as the gender, the marital status, the age, the qualifications and the relationship with the acceptance or discrimination of homosexuality. By the posting of the instruments on the internet page, the Santa Clara Strength of Religious Faith Questionnaire (SCSRF) and the questionnaire of the Portuguese attitude towards homosexuality (QAH), about 8oo answers were registered. The results that we have obtained reveal that the Portuguese with a stronger religious faith, present a higher sexual prejudice. As far as the sexual gender is concerned, men show more prejudice than women. Concerning marital status, the Portuguese married couples are still more prejudiced. As far as the age is concerned, although the results are not one hundred per cent certain, they show that the youngest generations are the ones that convey a higher tolerance concerning this subject. We can also conclude that the Portuguese with higher qualification present a greater acceptance of homosexuality. All the other data show that the Portuguese people are against the adoption of children by homosexual couples. As a result, we can conclude that, although a higher tendency to accept homosexuality has been revealed among Portuguese people, the prejudice still remains, which explains the need of the psychological professionals help concerning the development of strategies to fight against this kind of discrimination and social segregation.
