A presente investigação teve como objetivos: Analisar os critérios de admissão nos centros e de dia e discutir em que medida resultam de orientações das políticas; Compreender de que forma é operacionalizado o conceito de envelhecimento ativo na resposta social-centro de dia; Perceber em que medida a atuação e o posicionamento dos técnicos e diretores face aos idosos é guiada por estereótipos e perceções sociais associadas ao envelhecimento e à velhice. Atendendo a estes objetivos a metodologia escolhida foi de tipo interpretativo ou compreensivo, fazendo-se também uso de dados quantitativos, como por exemplo dados estatísticos, os quais contribuem para a caracterização do fenómeno em análise. Constituem amostra 8 centros de dia do concelho da Guarda, tendo-se realizado entrevistas às diretoras técnicas desses centros de dia e procedido à análise de documentos da Segurança Social e da ficha de admissão dos idosos. A admissão de idosos é da responsabilidade das diretoras técnicas dos centros de dia, mas a mesma nem sempre se rege pelos mesmos critérios, sendo em boa parte moldada pela sua interpretação das orientações da Segurança Social. Cremos que a clarificação dos critérios de admissão e o balizamento de funções da resposta social devia ser feito de forma mais rigorosa, tal poderia auxiliar as técnicas na realização da avaliação do processo de admissão, e contribuiria para reduzir ou eliminar as desigualdades no acesso. Embora as diretoras técnicas se distanciem dos estereótipos associados à velhice, na tentativa de explicar a sua existência, não deixam de ser feitas considerações que equacionam alguns aspetos da velhice com a infância. É assumido que os centros de dia se orientam por um modelo de envelhecimento ativo, no entanto, a identificação de alguns aspetos como o controlo de atividades, a pouca participação dos idosos na definição das atividades e mesmo um certo equacionar do envelhecimento ativo com a autonomia e a independência dos idosos parecem questionar os pressupostos de tal modelo.
The present research had as main objectives: Analysing the admission criteria in the day-care centres and to argue in which way the orientations result from politics; To understand in which way it’s operationalized the concept of the active aging in the social answer- day-care; To understand in which measure the acting and the placement of the technicians and directors towards the elderly is guided by stereotypes and social perceptions associated with aging and elderly people. Attending to these objectives, the methodology chosen was the interpretative type or comprehensive, doing as well the use of the quantitative data, such as statistical, which contribute to the characterization of the phenomenon under examination. Resulting from the analysis of the collected data we have as an example 8 daily centres in Guarda’s council, having realized the interviews to the technical directors of those day-care centres and performed the analysis of Social Security documents and the elders admission file. The admission of these elderly people is under responsability of the technical directors of the daily centres, but this technician isn’t always governed by the same criteria, being in a good part molded by her/his interpretation of the Social Security orientations. We believe that the criteria clarification of the admission and the beaconing of the functions in the social answer should be done in a more strict way, like this it could help the technicians realizing the admission process evaluation, and it would contribute to the reduction and elimination of the inequalities in the access. Although the technical directors become apart from the stereotypes associated to the old age, trying to explain its existence, considerations that equate some aspects of the old age to the childhood don’t stop of being made. It’s assumed that the daily centres orientate themselves by an active aging model, however, the identification of some of the aspects as the activities control, the low participation of the elders in the activities definition and even a certain active aging equating as an autonomy and the independence of the elders seem questioning the assumptions of that model.
