Since the era of Colonization, the European powers contend the land located in the region known as Contestado Franco-Brasileiro, as well as they represent enrichment fast, due to the discovery of gold in the location, they represent the right to navigate the largest river basin in Brazil, the Amazon. Thus, for two hundred years, France disputed with Portugal and, after independence, with Brazil the possession of the lands of that region. Treaties were signed, but none have the desired effect, whether for breach of his terms, is the absence of ratification or even knowledge of the treaty by one party. The only question has been finally resolved through the International Arbitration, which ended the conflict by winning at stake to Brazil and stipulated the territorial boundary between the current state of Amapá and the recent Province of French Guiana.

Desde a época da Colonização, as potências européias disputam as terras situadas na Região conhecida como Contestado Franco-brasileiro, pois além de estas representarem enriquecimento rápido, em virtude da descoberta de ouro na localidade, representam, outrossim, a navegalibidade na maior bacia hidrográfica brasileira, a do Amazonas. Assim, durante duzentos anos, a França disputou com Portugal e, após a independência, com o Brasil a posse das terras da mencionada região. Tratados foram assinados, mas nenhum surtiu o efeito desejado, seja pelo descumprimento de seus termos, seja pela ausência de ratificação e até de conhecimento do tratado por uma das partes. A questão só se encontrou definitivamente resolvida através da Arbitragem Internacional, que findou o conflito, dando ganho de causa ao Brasil e estipulou o limite territorial entre o atual estado do Amapá e a recente Província da Guiana Francesa.
