O presente estudo tem como objectivo responder à questão - Executou o Sistema Bancário Português as normas orientadoras dos Acordos de Basileia I e Basileia II? Esta investigação centra-se nos bancos portugueses que fazem parte da rede bancária nacional e tem como período temporal de análise 2005-2010. De forma a responder à questão de investigação, analisou-se a evolução dos Acordos de Capital, realizou-se uma breve descrição da evolução do SBP e do papel de supervisão do Banco de Portugal, assim como se calcularam e analisaram indicadores nas vertentes da liquidez, rendibilidade, solvabilidade e rating. Concluiu-se que, no âmbito da amostra seleccionada, os bancos com mais informação disponibilizada sobre os Acordos de BI e BII, e que implementam medidas de risco mais exigentes são o Millennium BCP, CGD, e BES.
The present study aims for the question - Did the Portuguese Bank System run the guidelines of the Basel Accords I and II? This investigation focuses on portuguese banks that are part of the national banking system and its temporal analysis is between 2005-2010. In order to answer the research question, the evolution of the Capital Accords was analyzed, a brief description of the evolution of the Portuguese Banking System and the supervisory role of the Bank of Portugal, as well as indicators were calculated and analyzed in the slopes of liquidity, profitability, solvency and rating. It was concluded that, within the selected sample, the banks with the most information available about the Basel Accords I and II, and implementing more stringent risk measures are Millennium BCP, CGD and BES.
