O tratamento à base de Plasma Rico em Plaquetas (PRP) consiste em fornecer fatores de crescimento, quimiotaxia e suporte aos tecidos. Este estudo diz respeito ao tratamento, à base de PRP, de lesões tendinosas e ligamentares da região da canela de equinos, que se apresentaram em consulta, na Clinica Veterinária Militar de Equinos, em Mafra. Cada equino foi avaliado seguindo uma abordagem clinica, incluindo exame dinâmico, realização de anestesias diagnósticas e exames complementares. Após o diagnóstico, o PRP foi infiltrado, de forma ecoguiada, tendo sido a quantidade infiltrada variável consoante a quantidade de PRP obtido, e o grau da lesão. O objetivo deste estudo foi o de avaliar: 1) a variação longitudinal, após o tratamento com PRP, bem como 2) a repetibilidade da medição destes parâmetros. Foram selecionados 10 parâmetros mesuráveis através da imagem ecográfica da lesão diagnosticada. Os resultados indicam que a evolução dos parâmetros estudados, nem sempre foi compatível com a regressão clinica da lesão ao longo do tempo. No entanto, a % da área da lesão e o comprimento da lesão destacaram-se como das mais consistentes com a involução da lesão, seguindo-se o espessamento da estrutura anatómica. Em relação à repetibilidade das medidas estudadas, o parâmetro mais repetível foi a área de secção transversal da estrutura avaliada e o espessamento do ligamento/ tendão avaliado, na secção longitudinal, os parâmetros que apresentaram maior repetibilidade.

ABSTRACT - Platelets rich plasma treatment in Horses - Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy provides tissue support by supplying the tissues with growth factors and inducing chemotaxis. The present study concerns using PRP therapy in the treatment of tendinous and ligamentous lesions of the cannon bone region in horses, admitted to the Army Veterinary Equine Clinic, in Mafra. Each horse was assessed following a clinical approach, including static examination, dynamic examination, diagnostic anesthesia and complementary diagnostic exams. According to the diagnosis, an echo guided PRP injection was performed. The injected quantity depended on the quantity of PRP obtained and the lesion’s degree of severity. The aim of this study was to evaluate: 1) the longitudinal variation, after treatment using PRP, as well as 2) the repeatability of these parameters’ measurement. Ten measurable parameters were selected from the ultrasound image of the diagnosed lesion. The results indicate the evolution of the parameters subjected to analysis has not always been consistent with the lesion’s clinical regression over time. However, the % of the lesion area and length of the lesion were the parameters with better consistence with the regression of the lesion, followed by the thickness of the structure, in the longitudinal section. As for the repeatability of the measurement, the most consistent parameter was the cross sectional area of the evaluated structure, and thickening of the ligament/tendon subjected to study, while evaluated in a longitudinal plane.
