Description
Mestrado em Engenharia Agronómica - Instituto Superior de Agronomia
This work was aimed at evaluating the utilization of kairomonal response to the parasitoid Anagyrus spec nov. próx. pseudococci (Girault) to the sex pheromone of the vine mealybug, Planococcus ficus (Signoret), on development of a new control tactic, enable to monitor parasitoids populations and also increase the rate parasitism of vine mealybug on citrus orchards. Laboratory essays on static olfactometer and Petri dishes, and field experiments were conducted, using two trap designs. The caracterization of Anagyrus spec nov. próx. pseudococci populations from different origins showed the existence of high intraspecific variability on the coloration of the first funicular segment of the female antenna. The results confirmed the existence of an innate kairomonal response, suggesting that sex pheromone of P. ficus (group II cue) induce an arrestment behaviour in the parasitoid near of pheromone source. The results also suggest the inexistence of migrations of Anagyrus spec nov. próx. pseudococci populations between cultures.
