Mestrado em Arquitetura Paisagista - Instituto Superior de Agronomia

The municipality of Faro is located in the middle of Algarve, and has positive features to the human occupation, such as the exceptional weather, as the proximity to the sea and the good soils for agriculture. Because of this, many farms settled here in the XIX and XX centuries. With the city development, the majority is now in a declining situation. Fortunately, that didnʼt happen to the farm in study, because of the actual owners, Diocese do Algarve, that are taking good care of it. Júdice Fialho, born in Portimão, in 1859, started his business life by selling alcohol, then to the fishing of sardines, tuna and codfish, but the canning business was the one that made him stand out. In 1911, he bought the farm, to make his own home. The Architect Norte Júnior made the project to a beautiful palace, in 1915, and after 10 years it was built. The gardens around it are inspired by a French style. Beyond these gardens, itʼs possible to see forest and agricultural fields. In 1925, the Fialhoʼs Family, moves to this palace and lives were, till heʼs last day. Now this place is working as a private school, and a new building with modern characteristics was built in 1961. The architect was Gomes da Costa. This assignment was made to know better the elements and the potentialities of the place, witch has great heritage value, unique in Faro. Because of that, the place should be open to the inhabitants of the city and to the tourists. Proceeded to a study of the farm based in bibliography, cartography and old pictures and to the actual status. With the conclusions, a proposal to value the heritage was made.
