Description
This research focuses on the consumer preferences for Gin in Portugal. The research looked at the Gin consumer's behaviour and identified the Gin attributes with greater value for the consumer. In fine the research objectives are to understand the purchase and consumption habits, to define the most and less relevant Gin attributes for the consumer and to determine the utility/relative importance of the key attributes. The data collection was made using online questionnaires, disseminated through social nets and the ISEG's institutional email. In order to determine the utility/relative importance of the key attributes the Conjoint Analysis technique was used to generate optimal combinations to characterise the consumer preferences on the basis of the key attributes previously defined. The assessment of the replies allowed determining the relative importance of each key attribute and the utility associated with each level of the attribute. The conclusions are that the most important attribute for the consumer is the Quality, followed by Recommendation, Price, Known Trademark and Packaging, by decreasing order of importance. The replies to the survey show that a Super Premium (quality) Gin has higher utility than a Premium or Standard one; that a recommended Gin has higher utility than a non-recommended one; that lower prices have more utility than higher prices; that a known trademark of Gin has higher utility than an unknown one; and that a Superior packaging has higher utility than a Standard one.
