The quality of life in urban environments is a reflection of the concept of quality public spaces. Values associated with the concepts of "identity", "sense of place" or even "public" are sometimes hidden, forgotten and threatened not only by strenuous times, but also by the focus of public and private entities to create iconic spaces that help efficiently to the visibility of cities and countries. We live in a time where citizens concern for what is public is constant, and to this extent, their role is crucial. This way, and especially in this difficult times, the society chooses the public spaces as his voice. As a consequence, it is necessary that public spaces are properly designed and particularly well planned. Starting from a theoretical analysis, this thesis aims to demonstrate and identify methodologies able to assess qualitatively interventions in public space and above all to find problems never diagnosed before. Also the Landscape Architect has a leading role, since his work has to meet the expectations and needs of the population without exclusion of any use of space and any social group. Thus, a proposal is presented to the public space of a zone of Benfica, designed to improve the quality of public space in the area, based on some of the criteria set out in studied methodologies, with the aim of contributing to a drawing consider the needs of citizens
