A dissertação de doutoramento tem por objetivo principal dar a conhecer, nas sua componentes artística, iconográfica, iconológica e doutrinária, a azulejaria realizada nos séculos XVII e XVIII para os conventos masculinos e femininos da Ordem do Carmo e da ordem dos Carmelitas Descalços, no espaço português europeu, o que permitirá preencher uma profunda lacuna da historiografia artística portuguesa quanto à azulejaria barroca das Ordens religiosas, em particular, e da arte portuguesa da Contra-Reforma, em geral. Com base num levantamento exaustivo das representaçõescerâmicas remanescentes e nos instrumentoa metodológicos da pesquisa da História da Arte pretende-se realizar uma investigação analítico-descritiva contextualizada da azulejaria carmelita do portugal barroco. A investigação, que incide na arte do azulejo, mas que possibilita a elaboração de uma rota da arte carmelita lusitana, congrega três áreas científicas. História da Arte (análise artística, iconográfica e iconológica), História da Espiritualidade (relação entre realidade espiritual e artística no Carmelo) e História da Cultura e da Imagética ( relação globalizante da imagem em espaços e realidade de comunicação distintas). THE BAROQUE TILES IN CONVENT OF THE CARMELITE ORDER AND THE ORDER OF THE DISCALCED CARMELITES IN PORTUGAL; Abstract: This Doctoral dissertation main aim is to make known, in its artistic components, iconographic, iconological and doctrinal, the tiles held in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries for male and female convents of the Carmelite Order and the Order of Discalced Carmelites in the European Portuguese space, which will fill in major gap in the historiography on the Portuguese artistic baroque tiles of religious Orders, in particular, and the Portuguese art of the Counter-Reformation in general. Based on an exhaustive survey of the remaining ceramic representations and methodological tools of Art History research we intend to perform a descriptive-analytical research contexted in the Carmelite tiles of the Baroque in Portugal. The investigation, which focuses on the art of tile, but also the creation of a route of a Carmelite Lusitanian art, brings, together three scientific disciplines: Art History (artistic analysis, iconographic and iconological), History of Spirituality (relationship between spiritual and artistic reality in the Carmel) and History of Culture and Imagetics (globalizing relationship of the image in spaces and realities of distinct communication).
