As missões internacionais de militares envolvem não só os próprios militares mas também, indirectamente, as suas famílias e a comunidade envolvente. É por isso importante considerar todos os sub-sistemas familiares (conjugal, parental, co-parental e fraternal) e também os contextos circundantes, nomeadamente o escolar, para compreender de forma holística o impacto do deslocamento e os contributos que podem ajudar a uma melhor adaptação ao mesmo. Este estudo pretende conhecer o impacto das missões internacionais no bem-estar dos filhos de militares, bem como a forma como a comunidade escolar pode promover um ajustamento positivo destes durante as várias etapas do deslocamento. Especificamente, tem os seguintes objectivos: compreender as dificuldades dos jovens, filhos de militares, durante o período de missão dos pais; compreender as dificuldades sentidas pela comunidade escolar que estabelece contacto com estes jovens; e conhecer os recursos já existentes identificando novas formas de apoio. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório e qualitativo, cuja amostra é constituída por 17 participantes: nove alunos filhos de pais militares e oito professores que lidam e/ou lidaram com este tipo de estudantes. Realizaram-se três focus group (dois com alunos e um com professores), cujas transcrições foram posteriormente analisadas de acordo com os procedimentos de análise temática, com recurso ao software QSR Nvivo 10. Os resultados mostraram que as dificuldades associadas à adaptação dos jovens durante a missão internacional estão relacionadas com alterações emocionais e com mudanças nas rotinas familiares, salientando-se o papel dos pares e da mãe como importantes fontes de suporte. Para um ajustamento positivo destes alunos sobressaiu ainda o contributo que a comunidade escolar pode exercer, devendo existir para tal um esforço de articulação entre a escola, os pais destes alunos e o Centro de Psicologia Aplicada do Exército (CPAE). No final são discutidas as limitações deste estudo, bem como algumas implicações para investigações futuras e para a intervenção com estes jovens estudantes e a comunidade escolar envolvente.
Military international missions involve not only the military themselves but also, indirectly, their families and the involving community. It is therefore important to consider all the family sub-systems (marital, parental, co-parental and fraternal) and also the surrounding contexts such as school, to understand holistically the impact of deployment and the contributions that can help a better adaptation. This study intends to acknowledge the impact of international missions on the well-being of military children, as well as how the school community can promote a positive adjustment during the various stages of deployment. Specifically, this study has the following objectives: understand the difficulties of young military children during the parental deployment; understand the difficulties faced by the academic community that establishes contact with these youngsters; and to know the existing resources, identifying new forms of support. This is an exploratory and qualitative study, which sample consisted of 17 participants: nine students, whose parents are military, and eight teachers dealing and / or dealt with such students. There were three focus groups (two with students and one with teachers), whose transcriptions were analyzed afterwards according to the thematic analysis procedures, using the software QSR Nvivo 10. The results showed that difficulties associated with adaptation of young people during the international mission are related to emotional changes and changes in family routines, emphasizing the role of peers and the mother as important sources of support. To a positive adjustment of these students it stood out the contribution that the school community can exercise and there should be a joint effort between the school, parents of these students and the Applied Psychology Center of the Army (CPAE). At the end we discuss the limitations of this study, as well as some implications for future research and for assisting these young students and the surrounding school community.
