ABSTRACT: The theme addressed in this Master Final Work considers, by analogy, the triology of the concepts of memory, limit and transition, that will be reflected in the final project. The concept of memory is approached in the interpretation of the city of the past as a way to think the city of the present. The abstract notion of memory associates with the concept of limit, searching to identify and define the different aspects of this concept that organizes and caracterizes the city. Finally, the concept of transition is the element that (en)closes this triology, according to an approach to urban transformation and the enlargement of the city of Lisboa, defining it in periods/ cycles, well represented in its different boroughs and quarters. Thus, the analogy of the three concepts is used respectively in the intervention in the building of ‘Colégio dos Meninos Orfâos’, borough of Mouraria in Lisboa, in the requalification of the architectural image of the quarter in which the building stands, and in the creation of habitable platforms to articulate the topography of the place, establishing a dynamic programme according to the interests of the community and, at the same time, creating a public space of circulation at the top.
