Food security and food availability are vital issues in any process of sustainable economic development, especially for Cape Verde. With large limits availability of natural resources (10% of arable land) and major climatic constraints to agricultural production, the country relies on foreign markets for its regular supply of basic food. This thesis aims to study the behavior of commodity markets, both at national and international, at the same time you want to analyze the work of ANSA - National Agency for Food Security in the sense of “regular” and those same regulatory markets ensuring food security in the country. This study evaluates the evolution of markets (especially prices), seeking to compare the behavior of the domestic market with international market for basic food, using several indicators to assess the particular “market efficiency”. The results show that the stability of commodity prices (local and imported products) in Cape Verde was higher compared to what occurred in the international market. The market volatility of Cape Verde in commodities almost did not occur, despite the recent crisis, demonstrating the work of “regulation” that could be made by ANSA, with great benefit to consumers
