Project/scholarship details

This application, HOSTMICROBE@IGC, aims at enhancing the capacity of the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência Mouse Unit, allowing to perform studies in mice that will contribute to increased knowledge to improve health. Towards this goal we propose to i) breed under germ-free conditions associated or not with specified microbial organisms, i.e. Gnotobiology, ii) infect with microbial organisms of potential hazard to personnel and the environment (Biosafety Level 2; BSL2) and iii) infect with pathogens which may cause serious or potentially lethal disease in humans but for which treatment exists (BSL3).
