Background: Sjogren's disease (SjD) systemic affection is being increasingly recognized. The prevalence of peripheral (PNS) and central (CNS) nervous system involvement in SjD and risk factors for these manifestations have not been clearly established. Objectives: To define the clinical characteristics of SjD patients with CNS and/or PNS involvement and to find predictors of this involvement.
Aims: Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a complex disease with a wide variety of manifestations and outcomes. We recently created PORTRESS, the Portuguese SjD registry within Reuma.pt. We aim to describe this registry and characterize our national cohort. Methods: We included patients with a clinical diagnosis of SjD, registered in PORTRESS up to November 2023. Demographic, clinical, treatment, and patient-reported ou...
Funding Information: This work was supported by a research grant from the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology. Publisher Copyright: © The Author(s) 2025.; Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a very heterogeneous disease with significant impact on health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL). Our objective was to assess and identify predictors of HRQoL in a 3-year follow-up period among PsA patients. Patients with PsA include...

Objectives To estimate the relationship between EQ5D (three levels, UK version) and the Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) for use in the economic evaluation of health technologies for people with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). To compare against the relationship with the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI). Methods An electronic, prospective, Portuguese, nationwide,...
Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) is characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands, i.e. autoimmune epithelitis. Lymphocytes are central in SjS pathogenesis, with B-cell hyperactivity mediated by T-cells. B-cells are main targets of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, a frequently-suggested trigger for SjS. We aimed to evaluate how the EBV infection modulates B and T-cell subsets in SjS, including as cont...
Purpose: To assess and compare corneal sub-basal nerve plexus morphology with circulating lymphocyte subsets, immunologic status and disease activity in Sjögren syndrome (SjS) patients. Methods: Fifty-five SjS patients, 63 Sicca patients (not fulfilling SjS criteria), 18 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 20 healthy controls (HC) were included. Systemic disease activity in SjS was assessed with the ESSDAI s...
Introduction: The diagnosis of Primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS) is sometimes challenging, taking into account the clinical heterogeneity and the variability of diagnostic criteria fulfillment. This study aims to evaluate the tear meniscus (TM) and corneal sub-basal nerve plexus (SBNP) in a population with pSS. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study of 50 patients with pSS and 20 healthy controls. Conventio...
Purpose: To evaluate lower tear meniscus and corneal sub-basal nerve plexus in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) and Sicca syndrome patients. Methods: Cross-sectional study of 116 patients with Sicca syndrome associated with pSS and not associated with Sjögren's syndrome (non-SS Sicca) and 20 normal control subjects. Tear meniscus height and area were measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography;...
