Zappi,Daniela C.; Filardi,Fabiana L. Ranzato; Leitman,Paula; Souza,Vinícius C.; Walter,Bruno M.T.; Pirani,José R.; Morim,Marli P.; Queiroz,Luciano P.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in rela...

The identification of Amazonian plants is still difficult for many reasons, one being the lack of collections over large areas of the region. As a consequence of the poor knowledge on the Amazonian flora, many taxonomic publications (revisions and floristic treatments) become out of date within a few years. In this context, the on-line publication of taxonomic treatises has been suggested, since it allows const...

Gaylussacia brasiliensis (Spreng.) Meissn., Ericaceae, is used in folk medicine for treatment of several inflammatory processes and as healing agent. The scope of this work was to evaluate the in vitro antiproliferative activity of crude dichloromethane extract (CHD) and to identify the compound(s) responsible for this activity. CHD was evaluated and showed a concentration dependent inhibition on all cells line...

The chemistry of flower rewards -- Oncidium (Orchidaceae)

Reis,Mariza G.; Faria,Aparecida D. de; Bittrich,Volker; Amaral,Maria do Carmo E.; Marsaioli,Anita J.

Most of the flower-pollinator interactions are based on rewards as pollen and nectar. Our group however, has been focusing on the chemical composition of unusual rewards like floral resins and floral oils. We are now reporting the chemistry of the floraloils of Oncidium pubes which are composed of diacylglycerols and triacylglycerols possessing one or two acetyl residues and one long chain fatty acid. The subst...
