A global initiative for ecological and evolutionary hologenomics

Leonard, Aoife; Abalos, Javier; Adhola, Titus; Aguirre, Windsor; Aizpurua, Ostaizka; Ali, Shahzad; Andreone, Franco; Aubret, Fabien

The Earth Hologenome Initiative (EHI) is a global collaboration to generate and analyse hologenomic data from wild animals and associated microorganisms using standardised methodologies underpinned by open and inclusive research principles. Initially focused on vertebrates, it aims to re-examine ecological and evolutionary questions by studying host–microbiota interactions from a systemic perspective.

The Munduruku marmoset: A new monkey species from southern Amazonia

Costa-Araújo, Rodrigo; Melo, Fabiano Rodrigues de; Canale, Gustavo Rodrigues; Hernández-Rangel, Sandra Marcela; Messias, Mariluce Rezende

Although the Atlantic Forest marmosets (Callithrix spp.) are among the best studied Neotropical primates, the Amazonian marmosets (Callibella humilis, Cebuella spp. and Mico spp.) are much less well-known. Even species diversity and distributions are yet to be properly determined because field data and materials currently available in scientific collections do not allow comprehensive taxonomic studies of Amazon...

Background: Titi monkeys, Callicebus, comprise the most species-rich primate genus-34 species are currently recognised, five of them described since 2005. The lack of molecular data for titi monkeys has meant that little is known of their phylogenetic relationships and divergence times. To clarify their evolutionary history, we assembled a large molecular dataset by sequencing 20 nuclear and two mitochondrial l...

Biogeography of squirrel monkeys (genus Saimiri): South-central Amazon origin a...

The squirrel monkey, Saimiri, is a pan-Amazonian Pleistocene radiation. We use statistical phylogeographic methods to create a mitochondrial DNA-based timetree for 118 squirrel monkey samples across 68 localities spanning all Amazonian centers of endemism, with the aim of better understanding (1) the effects of rivers as barriers to dispersal and distribution; (2) the area of origin for modern Saimiri; (3) whet...
