An integrated green process for the extraction of triterpenic acids fromEucalyp...

Oliveira, Cátia S. D.; Moreira, Patrícia; Cruz, Maria T.; Pereira, Cláudia M. F.; Gaspar, Alexandre; Neto, Carlos Pascoal; Pinto, Paula C. R. O.

In this study the viability of the integrated exploitation of E. globulus leaf essential oil and triterpenic acids was evaluated through the development of a novel extraction process that can be implemented sequentially in a biorefinery context. Thus, essential oil (EO) collected by hydrodistillation was used for the first time as a bio-based solvent to recover triterpenic acids (TTAs) from the residue resultin...

Chemical Composition and Effect against Skin Alterations of Bioactive Extracts ...

Eucalyptus globulus is planted extensively for pulp, paper and wood production. Although bioactive compounds obtained from its biomass are used as cosmetics ingredients, the skin effects were not yet fully explored. In order to fill this gap, this work aimed to study the protective effect against skin damage provided by the essential oil (EO) obtained from the hydrodistillation of Eucalyptus globulus leaves, an...

Characterization of Annona cherimola mill. Seed oil from Madeira Island: a poss...

Branco, Pedro Costa; Castilho, Paula C.; Rosa, Maria Fernanda; Ferreira, Juan

The possibility of using Annona seed oil as an added value product, namely as a source of biodiesel, is explored. Milled Annona seeds were extracted with hexane at room temperature (72 h) and at solvent boiling point (6 h). Oil content was found to be 25 and 22.4% respec tively. The oil was characterized in terms of lipid compo sition (HPLC–APCI–MS and 13C NMR), resistance to oxidation and acidity index. FAME c...

Characterization of triacylglycerols in Madeira laurel oil by HPLC-atmospheric ...

Castilho, Paula C.; Costa, Maria do Céu; Rodrigues, Ana; Branco, Pedro Costa; Costa, Mafalaa

Madeira laurel oil was fractionated by liquid ex traction combined with TLC, and TAGs were analyzed by HPLC coupled with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-MS (APCI-MS). Eluted molecular species compositions of the eluted TAG in the complex natural mixture were determined by GC identification of FAME and by LC-atmospheric pressure chemi cal ionization (APCI)-MS analysis of the lipid. The APCI-MS spectra o...
