1st International Caparica Conference on Chromogenic and Emissive Materials; A new simple and multifunctional fluorescent probe based on pyrene linked through an imine bond to a hydroxyphenol unit was synthesised, fully characterized and investigated in solution. Additionally, its behaviour in the presence of several ions (H+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Fe2+, Hg2+ and Al3+) was investigated in CH2Cl2. It was...

A comprehensive photophysical characterization of a bis-naphthalene derivative, L, was carried out in acetonitrile, using UV–Vis absorption, steady-state and time-resolved emission spectroscopy. It was found that in the 250–400 nm region, the absorption spectra showed two bands with maxima at ~ 220 nm and ~ 292 nm whereas the emission spectrum showed a band settled between 300 and 550 nm. A detailed time-resolv...

The synthesis of a pendant donor emissive macrocyclic ligand Py2N4S2 with up to four naphthylmethylene arms (L) has been achieved. Their derivative solid metal complexes (Co2 +, Ni2 +, Cu2 +, Zn2 +, Cd2 +, Hg2 + and Ag+) have been isolated and characterized. The photophysical properties of the free ligand L and their complexation behaviour have been investigated in solution. In dichloromethane, the free ligand ...
