No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01; Interactions between different pest control methods can affect Integrated Pest Management efficiency. This study sought to evaluate (1) if Si accumulation is related to the level of constitutive resistance in sorghum genotypes, (2) the level of Si induces resistance by antibiosis in sorghum genotypes wi...

Multidisciplinary characterization of Quaternary mass movement deposits in the ...

Silva, P. F.; Roque, C.; Drago, T.; Belen, A.; Henry, B.; Gemma, E.; Lopes, Ana; Lopez-Gonzalez, N.; Casas, D.; Naughton, F.; Naughton, F.

We present a multidisciplinary study of the seismic stratigraphy, sedimentology, geochemistry and magnetism to characterize the Quaternary mass movement deposits (MMD) and the associated deformation in the Portimao Bank (Gulf of Cadiz, offshore SW Iberia). Two scales of approach have been applied. At large-scale (m to km) approach, were recognized and characterized a series of important and subsequent slide sca...

Palaeomagnetic study of a subaerial volcanic ridge (São Jorge Island, Azores) f...

Silva, P. F.; Henry, B.; Marques, Fernando O.; Hildenbrand, A.; Madureira, P.; Meriaux, C. A.; Kratinova, Z.

We present a palaeomagnetic study on 38 lava flows and 20 dykes encompassing the past 1.3 Myr on S. Jorge Island (Azores ArchipelagoNorth Atlantic Ocean). The sections sampled in the southeastern and central/western parts of the island record reversed and normal polarities, respectively. They indicate a mean palaeomagnetic pole (81.3 degrees N, 160.7 degrees E, K= 33 and A95= 3.4 degrees) with a latitude shallo...

Erratum to Identification of tsunami-induced deposits using numerical modeling ...

Font, E.; Nascimento, C.; Omira, Rachid; Baptista, Maria Ana Carvalho Viana; Silva, P. F.

Storm- and tsunami-deposits are generated by similar depositional mechanisms making their discrimination hard to establish using classic sedimentologic methods. Here we propose an original approach to identify tsunami-induced deposits by combining numerical simulation and rock magnetism. To test our method, we investigate the tsunami deposit of the Boca do Rio estuary generated by the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon ...

Variation of magnetic properties in sedimentary rocks hosting the Foum Zguid dy...

Silva, P. F.; Henry, B.; Marques, F. O.; Mateus, A.; Madureira, P.; Lourenco, N.; Miranda, J. M.

The effects of dyke intrusion on the magnetic properties of host sedimentary rocks are still poorly understood. Therefore, we have evaluated bulk magnetic parameters of standard palaeomagnetic samples collected along several sections across the sediments hosting the Foum Zguid dyke in southern Morocco. The study has been completed with the evaluation of the magnetic fabric after laboratory application of sequen...

Strategic term rewriting and its application to a VDM-SL to SQL conversion

Alves, Tiago Miguel Laureano; Silva, P. F.; Visser, Joost; Oliveira, José Nuno Fonseca

We constructed a tool, called VooDooM, which converts datatypes in Vdm-sl into Sql relational data models. The conversion involves transformation of algebraic types to maps and products, and pointer introduction. The conversion is specified as a theory of refinement by calculation. The implementation technology is strategic term rewriting in Haskell, as supported by the Strafunski bundle. Due to these choices o...

Preliminary results of a study of magnetic properties in the Foum-Zguid dyke (M...

Silva, P. F.; Marques, F. O.; Henry, B.; Mateus, A.; Lourenço, Nuno; Miranda, J. M.

This work focuses on the study of flow and propagation of magma using rock magnetic analyses along sections across the thick Jurassic dyke of Foum-Zguid (Southern Morocco). Thermomagnetic data show that Ti-poor titanomagnetite is the main magnetic carrier. Petrographic analysis shows that the main Ti phase (ilmenite) occurs either as lamellae within spinel (center of the dyke) or as isolated grains (dyke margin...
