Zoonotic Onchocerca lupi Infection in Dogs, Greece and Portugal, 2011–2012

Onchocercosis by Onchocerca lupi is an emerging zoonosis, but only case reports are available in dog populations. Of 107 animals sampled in Greece and Portugal, 9 (8.4%) scored positive. Molecular analysis confirmed the morphological identification and showed that those from Portugal differed at larger extent from all others available.
