Compulsory admissions of patients with mental disorders : state of the art on e...

Wasserman, D.; Apter, G.; Baeken, C.; Bailey, S.; Balazs, J.; Bec, C.; Bienkowski, P.; Bobes, J.; Ortiz, M. F. Bravo; Brunn, H.; Bôke, Ö.; Camilleri, N.

Background: Compulsory admission procedures of patients with mental disorders vary between countries in Europe. The Ethics Committee of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) launched a survey on involuntary admission procedures of patients with mental disorders in 40 countries to gather information from all National Psychiatric Associations that are members of the EPA to develop recommendations for improvi...

Differentiation of osteoclast precursors on Gellan Gum-based spongy-like hydrog...

Maia, F. R.; David, M.; Naot, D.; da silva, L.; Bastos, A. R.; Costa, J. B.; Oliveira, J. M.; Correlo, V. M.; Reis, R. L.; Cornish, J.

Bone tissue engineering with cell-scaffold constructs has been attracting a lot of attention, in particular as a tool for efficient guiding of new tissue formation. However, the majority of the current strategies used to evaluate novel biomaterials focus on osteoblasts and bone formation, while osteoclasts are often overlooked. Consequently, there is limited knowledge about the interaction between osteoclasts a...

Mechanical construction and installation of the ATLAS tile calorimeter

ATLAS Tile Calorimeter collaboration (234 authors); Alves, R.; Amaral, P.; Carvalho, J.; David, M.; Gomes, A.; Maio, A.; Marques, C.; Onofre, A.

This paper summarises the mechanical construction andinstallation of the Tile Calorimeter for the ATLASexperiment at the Large Hadron Collider in CERN, Switzerland. The TileCalorimeter is a sampling calorimeter using scintillator as the sensitivedetector and steel as the absorber and covers the central region of the ATLASexperiment up to pseudorapidities ±1.7. The mechanical construction ofthe Tile Calorimeter ...

Hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS calorimetry in the framework of the ...

Akhmadaliev, S.; Amaral, P.; Ambrosini, G.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Andrieux, M. L.; Aubert, B.; Augé, E.; Badaud, F.; Baisin, L.; Barreiro, F.

This paper discusses hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS barrel prototype combined calorimeter (consisting of a lead-liquid argon electromagnetic part and an iron-scintillator hadronic part) in the framework of the non-parametrical method. The non-parametrical method utilizes only the known e/h ratios and the electron calibration constants and does not require the determination of any parameters by a min...

Hadronic shower development in Iron-Scintillator Tile Calorimetry

Amaral, P.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Barreira, G.; Benetta, R.; Berglund, S.; Biscarat, C.; Blanchot, G.; Blucher, E.; Bogush, A.; Bohm, C.

The lateral and longitudinal profiles of hadronic showers detected by a prototype of the ATLAS Iron-Scintillator Tile Hadron Calorimeter have been investigated. This calorimeter presents a unique longitudinal configuration of scintillator tiles. Using a fine-grained pion beam scan at 100 GeV, a detailed picture of transverse shower behaviour is obtained. The underlying radial energy densities for the four depth...

Results from a new combined test of an electromagnetic liquid argon calorimeter...

Akhmadaliev, S.; Albiol, F.; Amaral, P.; Ambrosini, G.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Andrieux, M. L.; Aubert, B.; Augé, E.; Badaud, F.; Baisin, L.

A new combined test of an electromagnetic liquid argon accordion calorimeter and a hadronic scintillating-tile calorimeter was carried out at the CERN SPS. These devices are prototypes of the barrel calorimeter of the future ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The energy resolution of pions in the energy range from 10 to 300 GeV at an incident angle [theta] of about 12° is well described by the expression , where E is...

Evaluation of Fermi read-out of the Atlas Tilecal prototype

Ajaltouni, Z.; Albiol, F.; Alifanov, A.; Amaral, P.; Amelin, D.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Angelini, C.; Agnvall, S.; Antola, A.; Astesan, F.

Prototypes of the FERMI system have been used to read out a prototype of the ATLAS hadron calorimeter in a beam test at the CERN SPS. The FERMI read-out system, using a compressor and a sampling ADC, is compared to a standard charge integrating read-out by measuring the energy resolution of the calorimeter separately with the two systems on the same events.; http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6TJM-3S...
